DR. KEITH NEWTON B.Sc.(Economics) M.A. PhD A scholar and a gentleman. Much loved and respected, brother to Eleanor (Jack); and husband to Beryl. Passed away on his own terms on Saturday, April 29, 2023 through the MAID programme, after a diagnosis of metastatic pancreatic cancer. Born in England on August 5, 1942, he graduated from Hull University with a B.Sc. in economics. He immigrated to Canada in 1963 to continue his education, where he attended McGill University and Simon Fraser University, receiving his M.A and his Ph.D. respectively. He went on to join the Economic Council of Canada, working for them for many years before ending his career as an associate professor at Carleton University. He made, and kept, many friends during this time and left an indelible footprint on all his accomplishments. Sports were a large part of his life, representing Canada in Field Hockey. He was also an avid squash and tennis player and a marathon runner. He was a published author in both his field of Economics, and in later years as a storyteller. He resided for the last three years at the New Edinburgh Square Seniors Residence in Ottawa, where he became a much-valued voluntary member of the Activities department. Creating a special class to have the residents keep up with world news by quizzing them, running a poetry reading group, an exercise class and anything else he could think of to get the residents' minds working. A great advocate of, 'Let's get the mind working!' He is going to be missed by all his 'students'. He will be sorely missed, especially by his sister, Eleanor, and the many, many friends he made over the years. It would take a book to tell his whole life story, so this is just a synopsis and I hope I did him proud. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date for people to remember him. Safe journey Bro. Condolences/Tributes Hulse, Playfair & McGarry
