KEN JEWETT Obituary

September 23, 1930 – November 26, 2025 "Hey, I am out of here. Do not fret, I have had a wonderful life!" Ken was born in Toronto to Arthur Jewett and Yvette (nee Marsan) Jewett, He was predeceased by siblings George and Claire (McLaughlin). Ken was married for 65 wonderful years to Edie (nee Carter) Jewett (deceased 2022) and passed away peacefully November 26th. Being a Dad was really important him and his children Cathy, Graeme (Laura) and James (Cindy) were fortunate to have him as a Dad. His grandchildren gave him joy - Stephanie (Alex Boot), Carter (Mitch), Erica (Matt), Cameron (Annie) Jewett and Max (Alex) and Bryn (Cam) Horner. He was delighted to be a Great-Grandad to Hudson and Mickey Boot. He adored his golden retrievers, Amy 1 and 2, and sweet Ollie. Ken loved his nieces, nephews, friends, neighbours and the people he worked with at the company he founded, Marsan Foods. Graeme and James brought the company to the next level, Ken said they took it further than he could. Ken founded Maple Leaves Forever, a charitable foundation that advocates and supports the planting of native maples. He was awarded the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Museum of Nature after the National Capital Commission changed their policy to only plant native maples. Over the course of its operation 136,760 maples have been planted. He was a Boy Scout leader, a Big Brother (Life Member) and served on the board of Trinity College School, even though he was refused entrance as a student! Ken would tell you himself that he was not a good student and got in a lot of trouble with his friends at Forest Hill Village Jr. High. Nevertheless, he found success. Ken and Edie did many trips with all 14 family members to see Canada and learn its history – Newfoundland, Edie's home province, Haida Gwaii, the Rockies, the Klondike, the high Arctic and the big one by ship - NYC to Southampton and onward to WWI&II Canadian battle sites. The family learned how to ski at Georgian Peaks, how to golf at Rosedale Golf Club (71-year member) and carried on with the next generation in Muskoka at Beaumaris. He never lost the travel bug and was fascinated with new places and cultures. Once he moved Larch Hill Farm in Mulmur he added new pets, Highland Cattle, Erica, Yvette and Stevie. Michael Fisher helped with the farm work and was a great companion and backgammon challenger. He had attentive care from Jaime, Marge and others as well as house calls from Dr. Rhys Owen. Thank you to everyone who visited Ken he was always happy to see you. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations to mapleleavesforever.ca would be a legacy that will last a lifetime.

Earlier today

Our memories of Ken and Edie are filled with kindness and the warm effortless way they made us feel. I was their Chiropractor for many years and when my husband and I were looking for a venue for our wedding, Ken offered Rosedale Golf Club. They both leave behind a beautiful legacy.

Yesterday

It was very sad to learn of Ken's passing, although at 96 he clearly had a very good run. I suspect he left this world in the same way he lived it - on his terms. Ours paths crossed numerous ways over the past few decades. Initially by looking after Amy and later by a shared love for planting trees, Pet Trust at the Ontario Veterinary College and country living. Ken was a kind and very generous man with a great sense of humour and when visiting him and Edie, it was like being welcomed into a second home.
Every time we look at our turtle rafts on our ponds we think of Ken and many now majestic maples stand in honour of his devotion and generosity for future generations. A life well lived and we were honoured to be a small part of it.

Ken was an inspiring presence, a person of vision and strength. I am glad to have known and worked for him for the last 15 years with his charity Maple Leaves Forever. Rest in Peace Ken. You will be missed, and remembered whenever I see a maple tree.

I only met Ken in the past 18 months, and was just so impressed by him in far too many ways to be expressed here. I read his book (which can be found on his website) and it´s an amazing story about a remarkable man. I´m so glad I got a chance - however briefly - to get to know him. He had such an amazing life! I hope all of his family and friends will enjoy the very fondest of memories of him for decades to come.
