COATES, Kenneth James MD., OBE, Col. R.C.A.M.C.
Wednesday, March 16, 2005 peacefully after a long struggle with CVA and pneumonia, at Sunnybrook Veterans L & K Wings, in his 91st year. Ken, devoted husband to Wilma for 66½ years of marriage, and loving father to Linda (George McDonald) and Carolyn (McInnes) and a wonderful grandfather to Ryan and Aaryn McInnes. Predeceased by his sister Margaret Gatin (Henry), and two brothers, Robert and Lesley. Born in Virden, Manitoba 1914, Ken attended the U. Of M., graduated from Medicine in 1935, joined the R.C.A.M.C. and served from 1939 to 1945 overseas with the 10th Field Ambulance. After World War II, he continued as Medical Officer with R.C.A.M.C. until 1966; then Staff Physician at W.C.B. Hospital in Toronto 1966-1976. Ken and Wilma enjoyed many happy years in retirement, travelling to Florida and at their home in Thornhill for 29 years with their family. Memorial for family and friends Sunday, March 20th. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Sunnybrook Veterans Fund. Many thanks to the physicians and nurses and staff at Sunnybrook and agency caregivers.
