KENNETH STRACHAN Obituary



KENNETH JAMES STRACHAN Ken died on Monday, September 19, 2005 at the Brantford General Hospital in his 70th year. Beloved husband for 44 years of Thirza Jean (nee Robbie). Dearest father of Jim (Bev) and Graham (Elan) and proud grandpa of Erin Elizabeth, all of Toronto. He is also survived by his brother Ian (Moyra) of Aberdeen, Scotland. Born in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland to the late Enid and Donald Strachan on May 15, 1936. Ken came to Canada in 1954. His first newspaper job was as a cub reporter at the Stratford Beacon Herald. He worked at the Pembroke Observer, Ottawa Journal and Ottawa Citizen before moving to Montreal, where he was managing editor of the Financial Times of Canada. In December 1971, Ken and his young family moved to Brantford, Ontario where he became editor of the Brantford Expositor for over 20 years. Ken thoroughly enjoyed his job and his city. He was a member of the Brantford Golf & Country Club, the Brantford Kiwanis Club, the Probus Club and served on many boards and committees in the community. Cremation and private family burial. A Memorial Service will be held at the BECKETT - GLAVES FAMILY FUNERAL CENTRE, 88 Brant Avenue on Monday, October 3rd, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the Brantford Golf & Country Club, Ava Road. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Ken in the Beckett Glaves Memorial Forest. www.beckettglaves.com
