Kevin HOWLETT Obituary

KEVIN FABIAN HOWLETT In his 95th year, Kevin Fabian Howlett died peacefully surrounded by family on February 14, 2022. Beloved husband of Elizabeth; father, friend and inspiration to: his son, Geoff Howlett and his wife, Rose Liu; Anne and Steve Copp; Martha Klinger and Matthew Kendall; Laura Klinger and Brent Grubb. Adored by his grandchildren, Mackenzie, Averil, Claire, Adam, Amelia, Sophia, Spencer and Grace. Kevin will be fondly remembered by Ammie Sealy and his many nieces and nephews across Canada and the United States. Born on August 29, 1927, in Gowan Brae, PEI to John Fabian and Mary Agnes (Mullally), Kevin was the last of eight siblings who predeceased him: Kathleen, Jim, Fennelly, Billie, Annie, Nellie and Joan. Kevin's first wife, Ellen Howlett (née Duffy) also predeceased him. In 1949, Kevin graduated from Saint Dunstan's University, PEI. He continued his education in the School of Business at Western University, London, Ontario. He began his successful career in the investment business on Bay St. in Toronto and for over sixty years remained a trusted colleague and ardent mentor. Kevin retired in his 89th year. Committed to serving the community, Kevin gave generously of his time. He was a life member of The Salvation Army Advisory Board and committee member of the "Sheltering Hope Capital Campaign" for the Salvation Army Centre of Hope (opened in November 2004). For many years he was also active on the Board of the Sifton Family Foundation. By following the X-Smokers program, Kevin successfully quit smoking and went on to help others by investing in and promoting the program. Devoted and loyal to family and friends, Kevin touched the lives of many in a positive way. Sincerely interested in the people around him and the world at large, he would engage enthusiastically on any subject. A voracious reader, he appreciated literature and the arts, and pursued a lifelong quest for learning. An attentive and witty conversationalist, he could tell a compelling story and never forget a clever dash of humor. Throughout his active life, he loved to play golf, particularly when he played the world's finest courses with his lifelong golf buddies. Always dapper, cheerful and ready for fun, Kevin lived a full and vital life. He will be warmly remembered and sadly missed. Thank you to all the wonderful doctors and nurses at Victoria Hospital who cared for Kevin in his final days. A celebration of life will take place on a future date.
