Kevin MACDONALD Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin MacDonald, who left us peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary. Born on October 29, 1940, Kevin grew up in northern New Brunswick, and pursued his Chartered Accountant studies in Bathurst, New Brunswick. He moved to Ontario for better employment opportunities, and obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in Ottawa, in 1965, while working for what is now Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Kevin's career spanned government, industry, and his own accounting practice. Notably, he was a founding member of C-Teck Limited, one of Canada's foremost sonar manufacturers. After selling his accounting practice, Kevin spent 11 years as a contractor, with an accounting firm in Iqaluit, Nunavut, allowing him to travel extensively and visit many communities across Nunavut. Kevin's dedication to community service and volunteer work was exemplary. He was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, in Bathurst, and served as Club Captain, at the golf club in Cornwall, Ontario, where he organized and ran the golf program for juniors. In Arnprior, Ontario, he was president of the curling club, and served on the Hospital Board, as well as the Town Council, including a term as mayor. In addition, Kevin founded the Ottawa Valley Music Festival, a summer-long celebration of classical music, that spanned the Ottawa Valley, for over 25 years. He co-founded the Wolfville, and Area Newcomers Club and served on the board of the Atlantic Theatre Festival, and Acadia Performing Arts. His legacy of service, dedication and passion will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him. Among his many hobbies, Kevin was a passionate woodworker, crafting furniture and various objects for family and friends, with meticulous skill. He also found great joy in golfing, curling, studying the clarinet, playing bridge, and immersing himself in a good book. A keen canoeist and cyclist, he served as a guide on canoe and cycling trips, for Ontario Nature. Alongside his professional and community accomplishments, Kevin was a devoted family man. He was an amazing dad, grandfather, husband, and friend. His love and commitment to his family were evident in everything he did, and he cherished the time spent with his loved ones. Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Yvette (née Ward) MacDonald; and their 3 sons, Charles of Washington DC; his wife, Lisa (née Soccol) MacDonald; and their son, Jesse; Ward of Port Williams, of Nova Scotia, his wife, Christine (née Frail) MacDonald; and their 2 daughters, Aria and Aries; and Andrew, of Ottawa, his wife, Fariba (née Zamani) MacDonald; his son, Steven; and their daughter, Sara Soulati. A celebration of Kevin's life will be held in the future, after the family has had time to grieve. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity organization of your choice.

Such a loss to our planet is Kevin MacDonald's departure, whom I had the pleasure to know through his loving wife Yvette and The Newcomers group in Wolfville.
I will treasure the memories of Kevin's gentle inclusion of others and his wit which was so dry and so funny.
I am certain Kevin will meet my daughter Charlene in that dimension they are now in and at some point laughter will resound. I send my wishes for Peace and good memories to all his loved ones.

To Yvette and family: We were deeply saddened to read of Kevin's death. He was a staunch supporter of the arts in Wolfville, especially the Acadia Performing Arts Series. He was a warm and congenial host and a gentleman in every way and we're sure that you will miss him very much.

Yvette, Charlie, Ward, Andrew and families, please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Kevin. When your family moved to Arnprior, we were so lucky to welcome you into the Bretzlaff clan. There are many happy memories of Christmases, visits to the Lodge and just overall friendship. Kevin was a serious and fun person. May your memories of him help you through this difficult time. Jane

Kevin, as my dad Tom's brother, I have known you, Yvette and the wonderful "boys" since I was a baby. And while we never lived in the same city (or province for that matter) we would visit through the years and I always remember you as the guy who looked so much like my Dad (albeit younger) and wonderfully shared the same sense of humour. Yes many jokes were groan-worthy but you were two peas in a pod. You shared a deep kindness and empathy with the world that made all those that knew you the better for it.
A few years back you and Yvette hosted Mark and I at your special place in the south and it was a visit we loved.
As a couple you have always had a deep sense of adventure, far before cycling the Black Forest was the thing to do.
You and Yvette have built an incredible family and legacy. We will miss you dearly. Love Carol, Mark, Scout and Billy.

You were there, Kevin, when we as a community stood up to save Gillies Grove in Arnprior. Your support for us carried you to the Mayor's chair, and you in turn supported our efforts which succeeded in saving The Grove. The Grove still stands today because of your help. Thank you, Kevin. God bless you.

Bicycling with my Parents in New Brunswick. Kevin taught me this poem.

" Oh, there once was a Puffin
Just the shape of a muffin,
And he lived on an island
In the bright blue sea!

He ate little fishes,
That were most delicious,
And he had them for supper
And he had them for tea.

But this poor little Puffin,
He couldn´t play nothin´,
For he hadn´t anybody
To play with at all.

So he sat on his island,
And he cried for awhile, and
He felt very lonely,
And he felt very small.

Then along came the fishes,
And they said, "If you wishes,
You can have us for playmates,
Instead of for tea!"

So they now play together,
In all sorts of weather,
And the Puffin eats pancakes,
Like you and like me"

Andre and I send our deepest sympathy to Yvette, Charlie, Ward, Andrew and families. I will always remember Kevin from my early days when he and Yvette were such good friends with my Mom and Dad. Kevin and Yvette were often at our house, their home and the lodge. Kevin had this most wonderful dry sense of humour. You couldn't always tell if he was serious or joking until you looked directly at his face and then you knew!!!! He will be fondly remembered and we wish you strength in the mourning of such an incredible caring man.
