PROFESSOR EMERITUS, DEPT. OF POLITICAL STUDIES, QUEEN'S UNIVERSITYPeacefully with his family at his side at Kingston General Hospital after a full and productive life of 84 years. Predeceased by his beloved wife Janet and brothers Abdullah and Mahmoud. Loving father of Adil (Susan) and Miriam (Richard), and Dada of Paul Latif. Bara Bhai (Urdu for big brother) will be sadly missed by brothers Hashim and Qader and sister Shamim. Also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Canada, England, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the superlative caregivers who helped him remain in his home until the week before his death. The family would also like to thank the members of the Islamic Society of Kingston for the enormous help they provided in assisting his passage into his next chapter. Professor Sayeed was born in Bellary, India in 1926 and grew up in Hyderabad. He was educated at Loyola College in Madras and the London School of Economics before starting his teaching career at Dacca University. He arrived as a Fulbright Scholar in New York City in 1953 and met his future wife Janet Callender. They married in 1954 and moved to Canada. After receiving a PhD from McGill University, Professor Sayeed taught for two years at the University of New Brunswick and then for the rest of his career at Queen's University, tirelessly assisted with his research and writing by his wife Janet. A service was held at the Islamic Centre of Kingston on Tuesday, April 12. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Human Development Foundation,
