Laura BALDWIN Obituary

LAURA BALDWIN It is with love and sadness that we announce the death of Laura Baldwin at the age of 92. For over 60 years, she was the loving wife of Larry who predeceased her in 2010. Laura was a fabulous role model and mentor for her children: Judy, Andrew (Delicia), Tricia, and Gillian, and grandchildren Erin (Hussein), Sarah (Stuart), Hayley (Eden), Stephen (Tara), and Lauren (Varshith). She lived long enough to enjoy five great-grandchildren with another child on the way. We all loved and admired her beyond what words can ever express. Upon retiring from her career in community development and adult education, Laura continued her lifelong love affair with the arts, books, and travel. She had a passion for pluralism and diversity that was demonstrated in her extended family, volunteer work, lifelong learning, and her career. She was an avid arts lover and arts volunteer and connected her kids and grandkids to the arts and books in the most profound way. Laura was deeply involved with the Academy for Lifelong Learning where she thrived on stimulating discussions and new friendships. To the very end, hers was a life truly well-lived with immense love, curiosity, and enthusiasm. What was Laura's secret to longevity and an amazing life? A life filled with love for her husband and family, staying intellectually fit with the Academy and reading and physically fit with daily swims and walks, kayaking in Muskoka, and most importantly, her ever-positive attitude towards life. Remembrances will be appreciated by the family and can be made at www.legacy.com. In memoriam donations to Cystic Fibrosis Canada at www.cysticfibrosis.ca will be welcomed and appreciated. We thank Dr. Merbaum, Dr. Tepper, Dr. Kirshen, Dr. Ferguson, and the entire wonderful team at the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care at Mount Sinai Hospital. Truly best practice in patient-centred, integrated, kind, and compassionate care.

Laura was my neighbor and over the years became a good friend. We shared stories, recipes, and our lives happy and sad. I miss her beautiful smile and and zest for life. She was always on the go and oh so happy to explore the day.
Laura, thank you for our friendship,
generosity, and for being in my life. You will always be remembered with a smile on my face. Laura, Rest In Peace. Irene/Frank

Laura was a dear friend to my father, Finlay Mackenzie. When Fin had a heart attack, Larry and Laura brought him to their home where he was cared for with kindness and love. Laura's passion for life and her curiosity for politics inspired my father for many years. Her friendship was one of his great good fortunes in his later years.
I had the good luck to enjoy a wonderful dinner with Laura just before Covid started in earnest. She cooked the meal while carrying on an engaging conversation. At the time, she was excited to be heading to Germany to look at pianos. She wrote a beautiful letter to me afterwards describing her adventures.
I am very sorry to hear that Laura has now passed. She was a force of nature. I am forever grateful to her for her kindness to my father. I am sure it was just one of a thousand kindnesses she provided throughout her life.

Laura was a role model for living life with zest and courage, from beginning to end. I had the chance to reconnect with her at Judy's graduation in Vancouver. Her humour and candour hadn't changed a bit! Ann Carson sends fond memories of their friendship raising young children together. We have donated to plant trees in her honour. Seems fitting to support life, just as Laura did. Condolences for your loss and deep shoes to fill! May you cherish the many happy memories. Meg Salter, Michael Salter and Ann Carson

So sorry to hear of Laura's passing. She and Larry were good friends of my great aunt Dora de Pedery Hunt. I remember Laura's smile - I recognized it immediately in the photo. My mother (Ildiko Hencz) and I remember Laura as a kind and happy person and we extend our sympathies you her family.

TO THE BALDWIN FAMILY:
As a neighbor and friend of Laura’s, it is heartbreaking for me to realize that she is gone and I will not hear the television blaring any longer! Or ring the “Irene” bell.
She was a delight. A dear with an infectious smile, unbelievable attitude, and made me happy just talking to her.
Over the ongoing Pandemic period, we talked about our families, and Laura spoke so glowingly about all of her children and grandchildren, We shared baked goods and dishes that were made and enjoyed by each of us. This sharing made life so much better considering our isolation and confinement.
I am grateful to have known her and what a blessing she has been to me.
I know she is no longer in pain and told her prior to her passing that one day I will cross over to say hello and renew our beautiful friendship.
I miss her and shall miss her. May she Rest In Peace. Shalom. Irene Freedman

I am so sorry to hear of Laura's passing. I met her several years ago in aqua fit class in the Skymark pool. She was great fun to chat with! Smart, funny, kind. Always game to get together for lunches and potlucks! I will really miss her.

I knew Laura through the Academy for LifeLong Learning. I gained a high degree of respect and admiration for her intellectual acuity and her attentive alertness in our discussions. I think of her as a very kind and generous listener while simultaneously quick to offer insights and impressions. Traits that she modelled, to which I aspire. The family should be very proud of such an accomplished and appreciated lady. She will be missed!

We met at the Academy. One could not but be impressed with Laura- her wit and intelligence, her vigour and enthusiasm, her positivity and liberality always on display. A wonderful human being.
