At Ottawa's Civic Hospital from a pulmonary embolism on Sunday, 16 December 2012 at the age of 83. He was the loving partner of Harvey Slack. A professor of history, author of numerous books, television host, broadcaster, Chairman of Telefilm Canada and Canadian Senator from 2001 to 2004, Laurier was passionate about Canada and everyone he knew. I was graced with the companionship of Laurier when I moved to Britannia Beach in November 1984. It led to a wonderful friendship as Laurier sparked the activism which led not only to the remediation of "Canada's worst point source of mineral contamination" but eventually into securing affordable community housing, which unfortunately Laurier never came to benefit from. His lovely manager's home was purchased by my brother Ron. We will all be eternally grateful to a loving and kind gentlement of the first order. My life and my family were blessed with his presence and his sense of civility and community. Laurier's spirit lives on here at the shores of Howe Sound as he always said it would....

I am saddened by the news that my fair friend, Laurier LaPierre has passed away. We laughed a lot and shared many tears during the years he spent with us as our good neighbour in Britannia Beach, B.C.
A passionate historian and Canadian, Laurier supported our struggling community and the Britannia Mine Museum in many ways. He was our friend and neighbour. He served as President for the Britannia Beach Community Association and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Britannia Beach Historical Society, governing body of the Britannia Mine Museum. May I extend my deepest sympathy to Thomas, Dominic, as well as Laurier's niece France, and his partner Harvey. Rest in Peace, my dear friend, Laurier.

Harvey: Bob and I are thinking of you and the sad loss of your loving partner at this time. Laurier was a unique person, so full of life. Have some wonderful photos of the two of you at AJ's Bat Mitzvah which I will send to you. May his memory remain in all our hearts and minds as a blessed person.
Sincerely, Arleen and Bob Auerbach

So sorry to hear of Laurier's passing. What an honour it was to have him at the National Historica Fair in Halifax in 2006. Our great nation will certainly miss Laurier LaPierre, a great Canadian whose passion for Canadian heritage was evident in his contented smile as he watched children carry out Historica Activities. His contribution and support from coast to coast was a stronghold for the program. Laurier seemed so satisfied and confident that the wonderful historic stories would live on through the activities of the Canadian Heritage Fair Program across this great nation. Personally, and on behalf of the youth and Fair Promoters of this province of Nova Scotia, I extent sincere sympathy to the family and friends of this special Canadian Laurier La Pierre.

I never had the priviledge of meeting Mr Lapierre in person but i did speak to him once . I heard such wonderful stories about him and his friend/reporter Warner Troyer. Warner had the greatest respect for him and his anecdotes of their times at the Chateau Laurier, they were good friends and i feel that i was also his friend threw these stories. He loved Canada with a passion. RIP and may God bless you Sir My deepest sympathies to his partner and family.

I met Mr. Lapierre and thought he was a wonderful person. I loved his interpretation of the Sieur De Lasalle on "Witness to Yesterday".

My deepest condolences. I loved him....loved how he teased me, wanted the best for me, and gave me a "what for" whenever he thought I should be doing something or thinking of something a different way. The two of you together were a joy to behold. I feel blessed to have called him friend. Canada has lost an icon...a man who loved this country with every atom of his being. He always saw the magic of Canada and what we had the potential to be. He will live in our hearts forever. With love,
