LAWRENCE CLIVE SKINNER Born: September 1, 1935, Maryborough, Queensland, Australia Died: Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg, Ontario, Canada
Clive was the first born to Lawrence and Jean Skinner. He spent his early years growing up in Maryborough, before the expanding family moved to Rockhampton in the early fifties, where Clive found work in the banking industry. He is remembered for being mischievous and a prankster. He always maintained links to Australia through correspondence, visits and the welcoming of visitors. His last visit to Rockhampton in 2002 resulted in a large family reunion which he greatly appreciated. His spirit of adventure and expanding his horizons led him to world travel as a young man, eventually settling in Canada in 1961. He lived mostly in Toronto, Nanaimo and Ladysmith, BC, before his final years in Port Hope, Ontario. He worked in business management positions until his retirement, and obtained a university degree in counselling, as well as active pursuits in areas of spirituality and personal growth that encompassed the Catholic, Anglican and Quaker traditions, Buddhism, Taoism, Native spirituality and dream work among the most prominent. Wherever Clive lived he was well known in the community. At home his generosity to friends, visitors and dinner party guests was renowned, particularly in the planning and preparation of elaborate menus. Clive is survived by his 3 children: Peter Skinner (Meredith), Timothy Skinner, Sara Knill (Mark), and 2 grandchildren Diana and Thomas Knill. He had 6 siblings: Joyce Mackay, Noel Skinner (deceased), Lorraine Walsh, Chris Skinner, Ross Skinner and Terry Skinner (deceased). Dorothy Skinner (deceased) was also well remembered by Clive. The family would like to thank Wendy Reiner and David Rydholm for their efforts on Clive's behalf during his final years in Port Hope. A Celebration of Clive's Life will be held on Saturday, June 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the home of Julie Aldis, 126 Walton Street Port Hope ON.
