LAWRENCE `LARRY' GRENVILLE TAPP Lawrence `Larry' Grenville Tapp (aged 73 years) passed away unexpectedly on January 31st, 2011 while on a business trip with his wife JoAnne, in Belize. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife JoAnne, his son John `Jay' and daughter-in-law Dawne; daughter Jill and son-in-law Michael Kelly; his seven (7) grandchildren - Darren, Jake, Charles, Jerry, Landon, Nicole and Angela; sister Susan & brother-inlaw Ernie Francis; sister-in-law Pat Small & brother-in-law & cousin Rod Small; nieces Sami-Jo Small and Lindsay Francis; nephews Luke Small and Jeffrey Francis, and many relatives and friends. Larry was born on Oct. 6, 1937 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, most recently residing in Langley, B.C. During his lengthy career he earned a stellar international business reputation through helping build many successful companies: he was President and CEO of the Lawson Mardon Group, and served as a Director and/ or Chairman for the following companies: Mainstreet Equity Corporation, Meritage Specialty Packaging Ltd., Softchoice, Talisman Energy, Rogers Telecom Holdings Inc., Tapp Technologies, People's Jewelers, Comcare, Livingston International, Husky Injection Molding Systems, Automation Tooling Systems, Numac Energy, The Mark Anthony Group, CCL Industries, and Wescast Industries. Tapp was also a director of The Nature Conservancy. In 1995 Tapp took his skills and abilities to the academic world when he was named the Dean of the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. Through his position he affected the lives and careers of many students, not only by sharing his knowledge, but also through his efforts in creating ever-increasing opportunities for these students by transforming the Richard Ivey School of Business into a world-class institution in business education, forged by extensive fund raising activities in the private sector. Tapp also shared his leadership skills with the competitive swimming community, which included serving as the President of Swimming Canada in 1974. In recognition of those contributions he has been inducted into th e Canadian Aquatic Hall of Fame along with his son Jay. His grandsons Jake and Charlie Tapp, both prominent Canadian swimmer student-athletes, are continuing a long tradition of accomplishment in international aquatics. A family funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 9th and a Memorial service will be held Thursday, February 17th at 1pm at Christian Life Assembly 21277 56th, Langley BC. A Memorial reception follows at 2:30pm at Newlands Golf & Country Club. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
