I am very sad to discover the passing of Dr Sloman. I can honestly say that he single handedly saved my son´s life. I think of him often as does my son and will be forever grateful. May he rest in eternal peace

It is with great sadness that only today I learnt of Leon's passing. I had wondered why my emails had been returned recently. This is to say that Leon was an absolutely wonderful mentor and unique and creative thinker in the area of evolutionary approaches to mental health difficulties. I owe him an enormous debt for his guidance and support over many years. We met in the late 80s and early 90s along with John Price another mentor and worked on various projects to do with attachment and social rank theory. He was the leader in the concept of the involuntary defeat strategy which is now well recognised internationally. Right to the end he was working on new ideas he wanted to publish. A great mind, enthusiastic spirit, a wonderful mentor, compassionate heart and a very missed friend.

Dr. Sloman was a genuine and kind man. He was intelligent and respected. Leon helped my daughter Brooke Magel and myself.
Leon will always be a legend.
Thank you for your service to the autism community.

Leon was a highly respected colleague of mine. He assisted in teaching psychiatry residents about family therapy, systems theory, and autism spectrum disorders. Residents always rated him among the best of their teachers. His kind, thoughtful demeanour will be sorely missed. May his memory be a blessing.

Approximately 10 years ago I received a call from Leon Sloman asking if I would like to know what was going on with my son. I had no idea who he was but jumped at the chance to have my son properly diagnosed as he had seen many clinicians without a satisfactory diagnosis. It was just before the holidays and he made an appointment for the following year, stating he expected the appointment to last most of the day, but that we would break for lunch. Leon was able to diagnosis my son and shed some light on his peculiarities and questions I'd had for years. Leon had been sifting through various patients' files at CAMH and thought he would reach out. While there were no easy answers or solutions, I am very grateful for his call and subsequent meetings. He was a very unusual, thoughtful, and honest man. I am sure my family is one of hundreds he has helped.

I played tennis more or less weekly with Leon until we moved to New York about 20 years ago. He was a tough opponent and a great friend. May his memory be a blessing.

My condolences to Valerie and the entire Sloman family on the loss of their beloved Leon. I knew him as both a dedicated clinician and a passionate researcher/theorist. Our discussions and collaborations over the years-some as recent as a few months ago-had a profound impact on my own thinking and clinical work. His greatest joy, however, was his family in whom he justifiably took great pride. May his memory be a blessing.

Dear Valerie and family:
My thoughts are with you. A great loss but a life well, and meaningfully lived.
Fondly, Sheila
