Linda SOMMERVILLE Obituary

LINDA SOMMERVILLE January 5, 1948 - May 8, 2023 Linda died peacefully, surrounded by family, at her home in Toronto, after five years of compassionate care from staff at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Born in Toronto to Muriel and Nelson 'Mac' Seccombe, with three siblings, John, Pat and David, whose fun-loving support she cherished through life. Linda instilled a sense of fun in her three children, Andrew, Jordan and Linsey. It's a quality shared by her loving, devoted husband, Bob Sommerville, and her children by marriage, Colleen and Patrick, as well as her five adored grandchildren, Adele, Isla, Calvin, Charlie and Mackendry. Linda attended Branksome Hall, maintaining strong friendships throughout her life with friends from school, as well as from the Granite Club and Mad River Golf Club in Creemore. Linda spent many summers in Muskoka growing up, and had many friends from those years. Linda and Bob loved spending time at, and were active within, the community at their Florida home in Boca Grande. Linda was a devoted member of the Junior League, a former Board President of New Directions, a charity supporting divorced and widowed women, and a volunteer and former staff member at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Linda and Bob married in 1993, and created a warm, thriving home for five teenagers. Their childrens' friends became like bonus kids: anyone was welcome at the house anytime. She was a gifted athlete and adored sports, especially golf, tennis and squash. Linda and Bob also loved travel: the bigger the adventure the better. Linda liked to laugh and make others laugh, and she also cherished heartfelt conversation – listening to others in a way that made them feel valued and uplifted. Linda had a saying that just a few friends was enough to sustain anyone, that it was possible to feel luck and gratitude for having had that. And yet she had dozens of close friends – a testament to her kind, fun-loving, and always hopeful nature. All are warmly invited to celebrate her life at a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, 230 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto. A reception will follow in the Flora McCrea Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a Charity of Your Choice. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.

I have the loviest memories of Linda as a warm, outspoken, funny and resourceful woman. I was a bit younger and in awe of her confidence and resoursefulness.

Bob,
Very sad to hear news of Linda!! We were only connected for a short while in Florida at Sea Oats but have many pleasant memories. The most important for me was about Linda who could light up a room or stadium with her smile and enthusiasm !! It will be a difficult time for you and family, so we send our sincere wishes to you to get through these challenging times.

I am a cousin of Linda. As kids, we spent our summers together at our family cottage on Lake Rosseau, playing games in the woods, swimming off our dock, golfing and boating. She was a total delight and every time we met as adults, all our childhood memories returned. We recently arranged the burial of her brother John at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, and she was courageous and positive in the midst of her grief. My deepest empathy to Bob and their kids. I will attend her funeral at TEMC this Thursday, to celebrate her life and friendship as well as grieving her loss.

My love,

Wally
