Lindsay WEIR Obituary

LINDSAY WEIR Lindsay Weir (nee Shields) passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019, at the age of 42, after a nine and a half year battle with brain cancer. Lindsay will forever be remembered by her best friend and husband, Eric Weir and their daughter, Makenna; father, Jim Shields; and brother, Adam Shields. Cherished daughter-in-law of Nancy (Bob) and Bob (Janice), and sister-in-law of Lisa (Bryan) and Sean (Tessy). Beloved aunt of Jaclyn and Connor Shields, Evan, Liam and Isla Ashbourne and Carter and Zach Weir. Predeceased by her mother, Carrol. Lindsay will be missed by many loving family members and close friends. Lindsay grew up in St. Catharines and was a graduate of Western University. After university, Lindsay moved to Toronto to start her career in advertising and worked for major national fashion magazines. Soon after moving to Toronto, Lindsay met her husband Eric and settled in the Beaches community, where they welcomed their daughter into the world, Makenna. Lindsay had always dreamed of being a mother and adored her little girl. She was truly her pride and joy. It was Lindsay's goal to support research at Princess Margaret where she received treatment, with this in mind, a named fund at PMH has been created to support the brain tumour research team. More background on the fund is available here: www.thepmcf.ca/LindsayWeir The family asks that you consider a donation to this fund in lieu of flowers. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, December 16, 2019 at the Toronto Hunt Club, 1355 Kingston Road, Scarborough. Due to capacity constraints of the venue, close family and friends are asked to join for remarks from 4:00-5:00 p.m. A reception will be held following the service from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and at that time, the family welcomes anyone wishing to join them as they celebrate the life of Lindsay with a glass of champagne and some good music - the way she would have wanted!

I am heartbroken for the loss of dear beautiful Lindsay. I first started working with her in 2004 at Transcontinental Media as a member of the Elle team and all the way along transitioning to TC and Quebecor Media. The first thing I noticed about Lindsay was her bright smile, infectious laugh, and then her gorgeous shoes! This girl definitely had style. Such a smart and witty woman, everyone liked her. So brave and courageous. I will miss her. My prayers go out to her precious Makenna, beloved Eric and rest of her family members. We are all blessed to have had her touch our lives.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Lindsay at Cossette Media. She was an intelligent, beautiful, kind hearted strong woman with style and class. Her beaming smile and notable laugh will be missed. I was honoured to attend her stunning wedding at Niagara on the Lake. She lwas a loving wife and a fantastic loving Mom. Lindsay, may your Light shine bright in Makenna and may your legacy continue to help others. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Once I met a little neighbour girl who was 3 years old. I was so excited because I too had a little girl the same age. Lindsay always had a smile whenever she came to the house to play.
That little girl turned into a beautiful teenager, successful woman, gorgeous bride and lived her best occupation, motherhood. Lindsay's family was very close and although she lived a couple of hours away they always kept in close touch and celebrated every occasion with zest and perfection.

My house was touched with sadness at the news of Lindsay's passing. My heart is sick for Eric and Mackenna but I know that they have learned through Lindsay the last few years that they too can overcome obstacles...and make life a better place because of her. My sincere condolences to Jim and Adam. They have been through way too many hiccups but the strength throughout their family I hope will prevail.

Difficult roads often lead to beautiful places and Lindsay was definitely on one on those roads. Love and prayers to all.

We will miss our beautiful friend and neighbour. She was so brave and inspiring - we clung together in the denial of this unfathomable reality. I will miss chatting over the backyard fence, watching the kids play in the pool and enjoying delicious summer sippers. You will be greatly missed my dear friend. Tara xo

Yes, Lindsay's lovely and engaging smile was unforgettable. The few times I met her she made me feel so very welcome.

The last time was at a celebration of her late mother Carrol's life.

It breaks my heart to know the pain both Jim and Adam must feel for the loss of the two most important women in their lives, and within so few years

I really feel empathy for her father Jim, a long-time friend and business associate of mine and her amazing brother Adam. My late wife Sherry succumbed to brain cancer too. The fine people at Princess Margaret took good care of her while she struggled against the inevitable outcome as well. They made her as comfortable as possible.

I will be pleased to donate to the hospital in Lindsay's name to enhance what I've already contributed in Sherry's memory.

Lindsay lit up the room every time I saw her enter. What a joyous smile. Sadly I experienced her lovely ways just a few times, the last when she smiled beautifully as we entered the memorial reception for her late mother Carol.

Our deepest condolences to Jim, my friend, and business associate going back to the early '70s Jim, plus his son and Lindsay's brother Adam.

The loss of the two most important women in their lives over such a short time is heartbreaking.

We can barely imagine how Eric Weir and their young daughter Makenna will get through their loss.

But they will. They're strong. They're survivors. And they'll have so many wonderful memories of Lindsay to fuel them forever.

That Smile
