LLIAN MACRAE Obituary

Dr. Llian Macrae, born Eileen Patricia Gwenllian Jones, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 13, 2026, in King Township, Ontario, at the age of 95. Survived by her loving husband, Duncan Lorne Macrae; and their six exceptional children: Duncan (Janet, née Lythgoe) of Brampton, Fiona of Toronto, Roland (Linda, née Marks) of Gormley, Allister (Sandy, née Rolfe) of Markham, Mairi (Joseph Zucchiatti) of Whitehorse, and Sheena (Hayley Sudbury) of Lisbon. Lorne and Llian later welcomed dearly loved grandchildren to the Macrae Clan: Laura (Theo Jonk), Caitlin, Kaileigh (Alex Swift), Aaron (Anne, née McGillivray), Mario, and Zadie; and great-grandchildren, Aleida and Leo. Predeceased by her mother, Eileen Jones (née Voyce); father, John Thomas Jones; and brother, John Vivian Jones. Born in 1930 in Newport, Wales. She lived in New York City, USA, from age seven to twenty-one. Educated in Manhattan, Columbia University, Cambridge University, England, Honours M.A. degree (M.A. Cantab), and Doctorate in Adult Education (Ed.D.) at U of T, and U of Guelph (Master Gardener). Committed to charitable work for children, Llian was employed by World Vision Canada. Her journalism career included freelance writing, editing, and teaching. At the heart of everything Llian did was her deep love for family, the sharing of special moments, and the profound joy of seeing everyone grow and flourish. A Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11 a.m., at Christ Church in Kettleby, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to a children's charity, as Llian did with Plan International Canada: "Help girls overcome barriers to education, health, and safety."
