MANUEL, Lloyd Westaway
On Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster, B.C. Predeceased by Gwendoline, his loving wife of sixty- one years, and his brothers – Gordon, Ormsby and Herbert. Survived by his son David (Susan), niece Evelyn and nephews Blois, Eric and Percy. Born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island on October 7, 1916. Served in the R.C.A.F. Coastal Command during World War II as a Flight Lieutenant in Alaska (8 BR Squadron) and England (407 Squadron - including it's last mission). Returned to Vancouver to wed his sweetheart at St. James' Anglican Church on August 27, 1946. Graduated from U.B.C. with a B.Comm. in 1948, articled at Frederick Field and obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1952. After seven years as Comptroller of Lafarge Cement (North America), appointed Executive Director of the B.C. Institute of Chartered Accountants and later elected Fellow. For sixteen years served as the Executive Vice President of the B.C. & Yukon Hotel Association retiring in 1985. Life Member of the Hotel Association of Canada. Past President of Financial Executives Institute (B.C.). Former Treasurer of St. James' Church. Past President of the Air Force Officers Association (B.C.). Active in the Air Cadet League of Canada. Past President of the Royal Commonwealth Society (B.C.). Requiem Mass will be conducted Saturday, February 14 at 2:30 p.m. at St. James' Anglican Church, 303 East Cordova Street, Vancouver, B.C., V6A 1L4. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. James' Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family. Walkey & Company Funeral Directors (604) 738-0006.
