LORETTA CHIN Obituary

Loretta Chin was born in Kowloon, Hong Kong, to her beloved mum, Barbara "Peggy" and Dr. John Chin. While still a young girl the family moved to London, England, where her dear brother, Richard, soon joined the brood. It was there that Loretta cultivated a lifelong fondness of all things British, from a good cup of tea to a dashing corduroy suit. The family then moved to Canada, making her a world traveller by the age of 8. That wanderlust would stay with her for the rest of her life, from backpacking through South America, to first class flights back to Hong Kong where it all started. She was always up for a new adventure. After graduating from U of T Loretta embarked on a career in journalism, working for The Toronto Star and Flare Magazine, often covering the fashion scene which eventually led to her successful decades-long career in styling. Her exquisite eye for detail and design led her to editorial work and commercials, and then eventually to TV and Films. Loretta never stopped sharing her knowledge, nurturing personal and professional relationships, some over many decades, a testament to her loyalty as a colleague and friend. But Loretta was so much more than her career accomplishments, and also much more than would first meet the eye. Always dressed to the nines and ready for a great party (especially if there was a dance floor), Loretta was also extremely well read, with a love of history, literature, old films, great conversation and a classic white pump. She did not shy away from a good political debate. She was possessed of a keen intellect, a caring soul that scorned a bully and rooted for the underdog. She was a mentor to many, loved people and had a way of bringing them together, from all different parts of her life. Loretta never stopped meeting new people and starting new friendships while still nurturing her lifelong relationships. If you were a friend you were a friend for life. Loretta will be remembered for her fierce dance moves, her killer style, her caring heart, her inner strength that could surprise even her family and close friends, her sometimes sharp tongue and that laugh… Yes, THAT laugh. Head thrown back, full of life, ready for whatever came her way. We will miss her always. Loretta leaves behind her beloved brother, Richard, and his wonderful wife, Lisa; her sister, Jacqueline, and husband, Peter; and her nieces and nephews, Samantha, Richard, Justin, Nicola and Quinn. Visitation will take place at Lynett Funeral Home, 3299 Dundas St. W., Toronto, on August 8, 2025, from 3 - 8 p.m., with Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 520 Sherbourne St., Toronto, on August 9, 2025, from 10 - 11 a.m. Inurnment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Yesterday

We worked together for a couple of decades, sometimes with the most impossible people and circumstances, but whenever I found that Loretta was on the project, at least it meant it as A-List! Condolences to all who knew her.
