It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lorraine Evelyn "Rainy" Mitchell (nee Nicholson), on Sunday, June 23, 2024, after celebrating the safe arrival of her second great-grandson on May 23rd and a spectacular 95th birthday party May 12th, Mother's Day, (and that date was also Mother's Day in the year of her birth – 1929). We are so lucky to have had her in our lives all this time. Beloved mother to Jane and Patty; cherished mother-in-law to Joe Likuski; adoring, proud and incredibly involved grandmother (Razy) to Katy (Brennen McMahon), Grace (Brandon Huff-MacDonald, Heather, and Ian (Dana Victor); and joyful to become great-grandmother (RaRa) to Keiran and Brayden. She was also a cherished aunt to Sue, Nancy, David, Paula, Lynda, Carol, Ken, and Doug; great-aunt to Seana, Johnny, Dierdre, and great-great-aunt to many more. She lost "her Jim" (our Dad), in 1986 - Flight Lieutenant James D. Mitchell, DFC – (RAF Pathfinder Squadrons 156 and 627), and was predeceased by devoted big brother Elwood (Nick) (d 1960); baby brother Clifford (before her birth); loving sister to Dorothy (Dodie) (d 2010) and Bob Gladstone (d 2004). Born to Emily (d 1982, nee Corner) and George Nicholson (d 1967), in Forest Hill Village (Toronto), Rainy described her childhood surrounded by extended family and visits to family farm as idyllic despite the Depression as a child, then WWII. She spent joy-filled years in Bermuda, in her 20's before falling for and marrying the brave war hero and settling into Lawence Park, Thornhill, and most recently, Aurora. Classy, beautiful, eloquent, insatiably curious and fiercely independent to the very end, she will be remembered as an accountant, writer, artist, dress designer, decorator, news hound, amateur medical researcher, cell phone and computer user ("are you Googling again, Rainy?"), baker and fun family event co-coordinator second to none. A life fully lived. We would like to thank everyone who were assisting Rainy while at Kingsway Place, Aurora, and in particular Jacquie, Melissa and team, Steph, Christy, Loida, Claudette, Gayle, Robert, as well as Delia during a difficult week. Friends and family may call at Marshall Funeral Home, 10366 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 10 a.m., followed by a service in the chapel at 11 a.m. While mom loved flowers, she also understood the value of giving. Feel free instead to donate to charities close to her (or your) heart in her honour: Fred Victor, Toronto (who were always there to support out veterans),
