DEGRANDPRE, Louis-Philippe
Q.C., C.C., G.O.Q., B.C.L., LL.D. LOUIS-PHILIPPE DE GRANDPRÉ Passed away in St.-Lambert, Québec on January 24, 2008 at the age of 90 years. Between 1938 and 1973, he practised law as a formidable litigator, also leaving a deep imprint on the law firms he founded and developed. He was President of the bars of Montréal and Québec in 1968 and 1969, and president of the Canadian Bar Association from 1972-1973. He was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Canada in 1974, from which he resigned in October 1977. He continued practising law long thereafter, as a senior partner and later counsel at Lafleur, Brown, de Grandpré (now Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP). He was a Companion of the Order of Canada, Grand Officier de l'Ordre national du Québec, and a recipient of the Québec Bar Medal for his contribution to law and justice. He will be sadly missed by his wife Marthe; their children (Michel, Ivan, Francine and Sylvie); eleven grandchildren and their families; and his brother and sister-in-law, Jean and Hélène de Grandpré, and their family; and the family of his late brother, Pierre de Grandpré. He will be remembered fondly by friends and colleagues across Canada for his dedication to the legal profession, his courage, his tenacity and his incisive judgement. The family will receive condolences Tuesday, January 29th from 3 to 9 at Alfred Dallaire Memoria, 1111 Laurier West, Outremont (corner Bloomfield). Valet Parking available. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday January 30 at 10 a.m. at St. Viateur Church in Outremont.
