Lt.Gen. McLACHLAN Obituary



McLACHLAN, Lt.Gen. (Ret'd) Hugh (C.M.M., D.F.C., C.D.)
Peacefully, May 6, 1998, after a short illness at Riverside Hospital, in his 76th year. Having come to Alberta from Gourock, Scotland, as an infant, he considered Lethbridge his hometown. Dear husband of Sybil and father of Rhonda and Patricia. Hugh is survived by one brother, Alex of Edmonton. Lovingly remembered by son-in-law Paul Dennis and grandchildren Rachel and Gregory. He will be deeply missed by many military colleagues and friends. Hugh served in WWII as a fighter pilot from 1941-45, then was offered re-enlistment in the peacetime RCAF in 1947 and made the Air Force his principle career until 1977. He retired as Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff. From 1977-1991 he was Officer in Charge of Ottawa for Rolls Royce. Hugh was an active member of Christ Church Cathedral and the Rideau Club and a long standing member of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club. The family will receive friends at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Funeral Service will be at Christ Church Cathedral, between Queen and Sparks Street, Ottawa, on Monday at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club on Aylmer Road. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Christ Church Cathedral Restoration Fund.
