LUCILLE JANE AIRD (nee Housser) July 7, 1924 - September 29, 2022 Lucille Jane Aird passed away peacefully at Belmont House with love in her heart and peace in her soul. Mom was the second child of Harry and Lucile (nee Graham) Housser. She had a wonderful childhood in Forest Hill, Toronto, where she lived around the corner from her future husband, John Black Aird. She attended Bishop Strachan School. During the Second World War, she volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross, driving a transport van to support the war effort. She married John during the war, and was his constant companion and confidante for the rest of his life, including the time he spent as the 23rd Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. Mom volunteered with many organizations over the years, including Big Sisters, the IODE, and the Junior League of Toronto. She was an Officer of the Order of St. John, and was awarded a medal by the Order of Saint Lazarus, as well as being awarded the Queen Elizabeth II's Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals. Mom was always happiest being with her family at Temple Trees, their cottage on Lake Rosseau. She loved her daily swims with Dad, driving her launch The Little Commander, visiting friends on the lake, and hosting many memorable celebrations at the cottage. Mom was a lady of great grace and warmth, and she had the gift of making the person she was speaking with feel like they were the only one in the room. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are an enduring testament to her love and the example she set. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Lea (Bill Menear), Jane (Tom Blackmore), Hugh Aird (Virginia), Katie (Dana Porter); and by her grandchildren: Kate (Tim McCormick), Robyn (George Zivic), Ian (Kari Graham), Jennifer (Matt Cammaert), Tommy (Lisa Tammsalu), Elizabeth (Bryce Gibson), John (Tanya Low), Ginny (Julian Low), Ayrlea (Andrew Colantonio), and Charlie; as well as by her 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband, John; her brother, Brigadier General John Housser; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Aird Campbell; her granddaughter, Heather Menear; and great-granddaughter, Quinn Cammaert. The family would like to thank Beth Campbell and Mary Gay McNeil for their support. They would also like to thank the staff at Belmont House for the tremendous love and support shown to Mom during her time there, and to Crislyn over the past two years. A family celebration of life has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mom's memory to the Belmont House Foundation (
