Ludis TIMERMANIS Obituary

LUDIS (LOU) TIMERMANIS October 25, 1939 to November 30, 2017

Lou Timermanis, devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones after a brave two year battle with cancer.
Immigrating to Canada as a young boy from Riga, Latvia, with his family, Ludis settled in the Toronto area of Etobicoke. While attending Alderwood High School, he was proudly earning money for the family delivering the Toronto Star newspaper. Lou's strong work ethic was recognized at an early age, becoming the Stars' 'Paper Carrier of the Year' and winning a trip to New York City. This trip gave way to Lou's taste for the finer things: Lou possessed a strong, quiet demeanor with a fine sense of humor, an appreciation for a good game of tennis, preferably two hours or more, a nice single malt scotch, a good Cuban cigar, jazz music, imported cars, a spy novel and fine clothes.
Lou held a strong sense of commitment and determination and exhibited this in his athletic abilities: he taught himself tennis from a 'how to book' as a young teen to which he played and taught throughout his life regularly in every town he lived in: from Grimsby to Burlington, to Clevelands House in Ontario cottage country and then cross country to Qualicum, Victoria and North Vancouver, BC and Palm Springs, Lou worked hard on the court and got much pleasure from the game and his opponents and studens, collecting friends along the way.
While attending McMaster University, he played varsity tennis and basketball and studied business and marketing. Those studies brought him success in many companies, as he became a steady lead on marketing and sales teams for Schenley Distillers in Montreal and then enjoyed a lengthy career with LifeSavers in Hamilton/Burlington as VP Marketing and Sales and later Schering Plough in Mississauga. During all these careers Lou was noted for his calm charming manner, strong business acumen and sharp attire.
Lou leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years, Lynne, who together they laughed and lived a very full and varied life. In their younger years, hosting wonderful dinner parties with Lou expounding on Lynne's fine cooking ability and steady supply of libations. This is where they shone. Meeting in Windsor in the mid 60's they started their lives together, later moving to Montreal, Port Credit, Grimsby, Burlington, Cobourg, Duncan, Victoria and finally settling with their only daughter, Lisa Marie and her loving young family in North Vancouver. When Lynne and Lou moved out to BC fifteen years ago it was to be closer to their loving family: daughter, Lisa; son-in-law, Bill; and grandsons, Ben and Nic. Bringing the family unit together was natural and though these last few years were difficult watching Lou courageously and gracefully fight, all was made calmer having a busy house full of love and positive energy to support them both.
Lou enjoyed the companionship of the families' 4 animals, specifically dogs Lucca and Bella who too will miss his caring and constant attention.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to our health care heros: The Lions Gate Hospital - Paul Klimo Oncology Clinic Team, Dr. Sasha Smiljanic and the North Shore Coastal Palliative Care Team and Vancouver Coastal Health Palliative Team - all offering an exceptional level of care and compassion every step of the way.
