LUCKEVICH, Ludmilla Halina
(nee Graczyk)
February 22, 1931 - June 13, 2015
Ludmilla passed away peacefully in her 85th year, surrounded by family, after a lengthy illness. She will be sadly missed by the love of her life, Alexander Luckevich; children, Theresa, Rosanne, Lydia (Don Pinchin), Michael, Mark (Liz Duke), Julie (Robert Kosonic), Maria (Gilles Lapointe), Kasia; 17 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; brother, Matthew (Audrey); and sister, Christine Sackaney (Fred).
Ludmilla was born and raised in Niagara Falls and worked summers on farms and at the Brock Hotel. She attended the University of Toronto (St. Michael's College) and proudly graduated with a BA in Philosophy and English. She met her future husband, Alec through the Polish Students Club. They married on September 19, 1953, and shared 61 wonderful years together.
By 1967, Ludmilla had given birth to their 8 children, raising them with true joy, love and trust in God. In 1976 the family packed up and moved with their four youngest children to Rancho Palos Verdes, California. In 2008, Ludmilla and Alec returned to Toronto to be closer to family.
Our mother adored babies and children and was devoted to her family, her Catholic faith, and passing on Polish family traditions like Wigilia. She beat the odds on her ailments, for which we are so very thankful. Our mother was able to remain at home only because of the unending devotion and nursing care provided by Alec and her caregivers. She loved angels and was saying her nightly prayer to her Guardian Angel with her last breath on earth. Babcia, we will forever 'bless the hands that prepared this meal' and cherish our wonderful memories of you. Friends may call at the Turner and Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W. on Thursday, June 18, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Peace Church, 3914 Bloor St. W. on Friday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery.
