McGOWAN, Mabel Christina (nee Marcus)
Peacefully at her home in Toronto with loved ones at her side on Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 in her 108th year. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Lionel J. (Mac) McGowan in 1980. Mabel was born and educated in Montreal. She was a vibrant, proud, passionate person, a progressive thinker with strong opinions and principles. She was a patron of the arts; loved travel, music, fashion, long walks, the French language and its culture.
Above all, she loved her friends and good conversation. She will be deeply missed by her close friends, including Neil and Pixie Shaw and their families in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver, Bob and Dorothy Findlay and their family in Vancouver and Victoria and Ronald and Sheila Robertson in Toronto. She is survived by relatives in the USA. In her final years, Mabel had the benefit of superb care from her friend and doctor, Dr. Robert Francis, and Janet, her loyal, compassionate caregiver and friend.
Friends are invited to visit the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West (2 lights west of Yonge St.), on Sunday, May 3rd from 4 -6 p.m. We will celebrate Mabel's long life on Wednesday, May 6th at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Anglican Church York Mills, 19 Donridge Drive, Toronto. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the North York General Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
