It is with great sadness that the family of Mabel Louise Zwirewich (née Appleton) announce her sudden passing on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the age of 91. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Charles; daughter-in-law, Dana Zwirewich; and numerous friends. Louise was predeceased by her loving husband of 33 years, John; and parents, Rachel and Charles Appleton. Louise grew up in Montreal and obtained her degree as a Registered Nurse from the Montreal General Hospital. She worked as a surgical nurse, then became the head nurse of the Surgical Day-Care unit at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Thereafter she moved to an administrative role as the Director of Commissioning at the Civic, during which she received awards for her work in redeveloping the main campus and construction of the Ottawa Heart Institute and Loeb Research Institute. Away from work she was an avid gardener, loved baseball, puzzles, travel and spending time with family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 6, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., at Whelan Funeral Home, 515 Cooper Street, Ottawa, ON.
