MADELINE HARDY The family of Madeline Isobel Hardy, Ed.D., LL.D. announces her peaceful death on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Amica, London. Madge was the beloved wife of the late Dr. J. Grant McMurray and the dear only sister of the late Shirley M. McNair of London. She was the daughter of the late Homer and Bella (Corsaut) Hardy of London Township. She is survived by her nephew John McNair and his wife Deborah of St. Marys and their sons Kenneth (Dayna) and William (Shannon O'Connor). Also surviving are her niece Dr. Susan McNair and her husband Dr. Edward Mac Neil and their daughters Margaret and Clara of London. Dear great-great-aunt of Cole, Wyatt, Thomasin, and Jack. Madge will also be remembered by the McMurray family. Madeline had a long and distinguished career in all levels of public education, her passion being children with special needs. She was a professor at both Western and York Universities. She earned a BSc from Columbia University in New York, an Ed.D. from the University of Toronto, and was awarded an LL.D. by York University. She served as Director of the former London Board of Education and was quoted as follows: 'As a teacher, children were my joy; as an administrator, they were my inspiration.' Madeline participated actively in a host of voluntary activities - local, national, and international. She had been a member of Colborne St. United Church since 1961. The funeral service was conducted at Harris Funeral Home, London, on Wednesday, December 8. Private interment Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Learning Disabilities Association of London Region, Colborne St. United Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
