MADGE P. WIESMAN Madge P. Wiesman passed away peacefully at the North Shore Hospice in North Vancouver on May 25, 2021. She was laid to rest beside her dear husband and soulmate, Brahm Wiesman, at the Schara Tzedeck Cemetery the next morning. Madge, born on January 21, 1930 in Glasgow, Scotland was the youngest of four children. She was predeceased by her parents David Dalgliesh McCulloch and Helen Pryce McCulloch and by her siblings David, George and Eleanor. Madge trained at the Bath School of Physiotherapy in England and started her career in Aberdeen, Scotland. After moving to Canada, she worked at hospitals in Montreal, Edmonton, Victoria and finally North Vancouver. During her 27 years at Lions Gate Hospital, she became Director of Physiotherapy and later Director of Rehabilitation Services, retiring in 1990. Madge was an active member of the Physiotherapist Association of BC serving on its board and committees. Keeping up close friendships and ties with those she worked with was an important part of her life. While working in Edmonton, Madge met Brahm Wiesman and they married in 1956. They were happy together until his passing in 2003. Madge was an active member of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) West Vancouver and served as club president from 1998 - 2000. With a great interest in education, Madge was a strong and generous supporter of any CFUW educational endeavours. After Brahm passed, Madge established the Brahm Wiesman School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP) Memorial Award at the University of British Columbia. She enjoyed meeting many of the award recipients and hearing about their research. Madge remained involved with the awards right up to her death. In her last years she had many health issues which she endured with courage, fortitude, grace and a sense of humour. Thanks to Paz for her assistance and friendship over 21 years and particularly for her excellent care and support in these last few years. Madge was a much beloved aunt, great aunt and great-great aunt to: niece Helen Farmer (Stewart) and family Christopher, David and Rachel; nephew Gordon McCulloch (Linda) and daughter Laura (James O'Keefe) and family. On the Wiesman side: nephew Mark Madras (Eva) and sons Dr. Jonathan Madras (Dr. Tracey Hendler) and Richard (Marnie); niece Dr. Karen Madras (late Dr. Ed Stopa) and daughters Emily (John), Eva, Eliza and Arielle; nephew Dr. Robert Bernstein (former wife Judy) and children Seth (Leah), Jonah (Kira) and Erica (Mike); niece Janet Mendelsohn (Steve) and sons Joshua (Ellen) and Daniel (Amanda). Madge was an extraordinary woman who will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. A Virtual Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, June 6, 2021 at 11 a.m. PT.
