I was hired to work at Grace Church On-the Hill in 1974 as the assistant Verger, under head Verger, Stephen Berry. It was Reverend Evans that had the final call on hiring me. I was a young guy fresh out of high school. It was clear from the start that Rev. Evans stood behind a reputation for supporting the young. I worked there till February 1977 when I went to work at Consumers Gas. It was because of Rev Evans recommendation that I got hired there. I worked at Consumers Gas (Now named Enbridge Gas) for 36 years before I retired. But Grace Church On-the-Hill was where I got started. In my 2 and a half years working at Grace Church On-the-Hill, there were many really nice people there...Steve, John Erb, Muriel Wells, Maylanne Mabee and of course, Rev Evans. My Dad used to say "The real measure of a person is not the riches he or she leave behind. Its the warm memories. " Rest in peace, sir. I will remember you fondly as a kind gentle and loving soul.

I remember Malcolm being a sincere, warm and caring person. Always quick with a joke and humorous insight. Malcolm married Robert and I in Grace Church, which was so special because he was also part of my confirmation when I was young. My heart goes out to his family. He was truly one of a kind.

Bryan and I so appreciated our friendship with Malcolm. As did all the Finlays while he was in Niagara. He was loads of fun, loved a party, and had a wicked (but kindly) sense of humour. May you Rest In Peace dear friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Carol and Bryan Finlay.
