Marc HELIE Obituary

MARC HÉLIE Marc Hélie, 66, passed away on June 14, 2021 leaving Amagansett and the ocean breeze and sunshine he loved so much! His wife, Francesca M. Jewels, along with his close friend William Guanga, were at his side providing love and support until his passing. Marc bravely battled glioblastoma multiforme (brain cancer) since his diagnosis in January 2020. Marc was one of the original pioneers in establishing the global emerging markets investment sector by creating and implementing innovative strategies to restructure sovereign debt and equities for developing countries worldwide, especially in Eastern Europe and Latin America. Marc helped to establish what is now recognized as an important multi-trillion dollar industry sector held in every major portfolio. Marc was an activist ensuring access to capital in developing nations and was noted for his in-depth research and keen insights into the political structures and governments of developing countries heavily burdened by debt. Marc assisted numerous administrations with his astute political insights into foreign nations. Marc co-founded Gramercy Advisors LLC in 1998 and later Chevalier Investments LLC, where he consulted and invested private funds and provided research for private investors and governments. Marc was a kind and gentle man who treated everyone with respect. Many will mourn his premature passing. Marc was a proud Canadian who appreciated the many opportunities offered in America, his adopted country. Marc was always a considerate and terrific host; many who enjoyed his hospitality will retain fond memories of time spent in his company. In his spare time, Marc loved reading about world politics and international affairs, he loved cooking, entertaining, traveling, jogging, watching football and was active in all animal rescues. Marc's love of dogs was legendary and he was a dog whisperer if ever there was one. Marc is survived by his wife, Francesca M. Jewels, his mother Lise Boivin Hélie and five siblings Jazz (Jane), Josée, Michel (Terry), CJ, Louise (Dennis), and his nephews Corey and Justin. Marc was predeceased by his father Dr. Gilles Hélie late last year. While this is a time of grief for us, we are strengthened knowing that Marc lived life on his terms. Farewell, until we see each other again.

I fondly remember Marc, my next door neighbour on Beaton Avenue in Sudbury. Such a quiet, gentle and pleasant friend! We continued to see each other once they moved to Ramsey Lake until we, as a family left Sudbury.
What an amazing man he turned out to be! I send my warmest regards, love and of course condolences to his family.

My heart is saddened hearing this week that Marc had passed.
Someone so special as Marc can never be forgotten, his lovely laugh and great smile, so many memories growing up on Lake Ramsey, may we all cherish these memories.
Sending much love to the family !

I remember Marc well! We had many friends in common. We had a wonderful Grade 12 graduation and a party at his parents home on Ramsey Lake. I am sure there were at least 50 people there. We all spent the night and the next morning his Mom made all us breakfast. A wonderful memory I will never forget!
