MARGARET ATKINSON Obituary
November 15, 1925 – January 10, 2025 It is with much sadness but unbounded love that we announce the peaceful passing of Peggy Atkinson in the early morning of Friday, January 10, 2025. Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Cavan Atkinson; her parents, James Albert and Isabele Hewitt; her stepmother, Isobel Hewitt; her brother, James Arthur Hewitt (Emily); her nephew, Jim Hewitt and her son-in-law, Jeff Anderson. She was the cherished mother of Cathy (Norbert), Liz and Karen (Michael), the adored grandmother of Ben (Katy), Cody (Cheri), Carly (Kyle), Amanda (Matt), Matt (Claudia), Garrett, Lauren (Dylan) and Jennifer, and the very special GG to her 11 great-grandchildren. She was also the much-loved Aunt Peg to Linda Upshaw and the four Atkinson boys, Jeff (Barb), John, Ross (Cecelia) and Stuart (Colette) and their families. Peggy was born in Philadelphia, grew up outside Washington, DC and moved to Canada in 1946. She was married to Cavan in the summer of 1955 and after living several places in Toronto and London, Ontario, they happily settled on Ridley Blvd., fondly referred to as 110. Peggy, Cavan and their three girls spent many summers and holidays with Cavan's brother, Doug; his wife, Janet and their four boys. They also enjoyed many lifelong friendships and Peggy especially treasured the special friends from her bridge club that spanned over fifty years. Peggy was incredibly loving, kind and gracious, and she had an easy graceful style that reflected her kind-hearted soul. She was also fun loving and always happy to welcome people into her home. In 2014, Peggy moved to an Amica retirement home and, as her needs increased over the years, she received excellent care from the staff there. In the latter years she also received private care through Mosaic Home Care. Her family would like to thank all of the staff at Amica and Mosaic for the excellent care they provided, with a very special thank you to Joylyn. Following the pandemic and into Peggy's final years, Joylyn provided exceptionally loving care to mom. They became best friends and family to one another and Peggy's daughters will remember Joylyn's dedication always. Her family would also like to thank Dr. Yoon and Klaudia of the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care for their compassion and kindness. Peggy will be lovingly remembered by everyone who knew her. We believe that if she could leave us with a final message, it would be to cherish every day, be quick to forgive and to embrace others openly. There will be a celebration of life for Peggy on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Kane-Jerrett North York Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge Street (south of Steeles). A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00p.m. and the celebration will begin at 1:00p.m.
