COLEMAN, Margaret 'Maggie' MacGillivray
Died on July 27th 2010, in Vancouver, B.C. Survived by her four children, Jeanie Hodgins (John), Daphne Frost (Anson), Mary Norris (Jim) and Bill Mercer (Diana), from her first marriage to Allan Mercer. Maggie Coleman was born in 1918, in Torquay, England to a Canadian Brigadier-General, Arthur Clark and his wife, Jean. The family returned to Vancouver after the war where she lived for most of her life. She married Allan Mercer, lawyer and soldier, in 1940 and thereafter was devoted to bringing up their children in a traditional manner, instilling in them her high principles and aesthetic sense. A witty, spirited and attractive woman, Maggie was widowed in 1972. She later married Jim Coleman, sports journalist and member of the Order of Canada. She spent the remaining years before his death as Jim's happy companion to many Canadian sporting events. Maggie had ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 11 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's (Kerrisdale) Anglican Church, 2490 West 37th Ave., Vancouver.
