MARGARET GIBSON Obituary

Margaret Clair "Maggie" Gibson passed away peacefully at home, on March 24, 2026, at the age of 87. She was predeceased by Dick Gibson, her loving husband of 55 years; and is survived by her beloved children, Matt (Dominique Barker) and Kate (Chris Hillman), her extended family and wonderful circle of friends. Maggie's treasured grandchildren, Jacqueline, Felix, Zara, and Annabelle were the light of her life, and they have amazing memories of Grandma Maggie. From songs written just for them and cooking sessions in her kitchen, to laughter on the dock on annual summer cottage trips, she was an extraordinary grandmother, amazing mother, devoted wife and a truly special human being. Maggie was a "Toronto Gal" through and through, growing up in Wanless Park. Her close relationship with her parents instilled in her a kind and generous nature and a devotion to family and friends. Her horizons expanded when she completed a BA at the University of Western Ontario, graduating in 1961. A love of travel saw her spend a year working and travelling across Western Europe before starting a career in television, working at CFTO Channel 9 as a producer and presenter on the Toronto Today show. A gifted sportswoman, Maggie enjoyed swimming, cycling, skiing and tennis. She was a well-loved player at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club and was equally famous for writing funny songs for the club's annual "Foot Faults" performances. Maggie had a love of music and was a member of the Treblemakers choir and a ukelele group, alongside serving on the board of Living and Learning in Retirement for many years. From tending her beautiful garden, and welcoming people to her North Toronto home with a smile, to bringing light into the lives of everyone who knew her – that is how she will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider making a donation to The United Way.
