I met Margaret at an ice evolution week with Yamnuska in 2009 where we were paired up for the multi-pitch day. She ended up hosting our group multiple times for dinner that week. I enjoyed my time with her sooo much and we stayed in touch for years after that. I am so glad I had a chance to get to know this wonderful, unique, loving, and fabulous woman. I cherish the week we spent together. It was a short time, but was enough to become very fond of her. I send love and comfort to her family. She will be truly missed.

Loving mother, successful career woman, enthusiastic mountaineer. These of course are the broad strokes of Margaret's life. But God is in the details, as the saying goes. So here's another share. Margaret was a classically trained pianist; and as a PK (preacher's kid), played the organ for her dad (Rev. Canon Imai) at St. Andrew's in the Annex throughout her teens and twenties. She was also a lifelong fan of 1960s pop, soul, R&B Motown for short. Rushing home from Oakwood Collegiate, she would fire up the old TV and dance along to American Bandstand while chatting on the landline phone to a girlfriend doing the same (these were the days of very long extension cords). And remember 45s? Margaret had stacks of them! So let's pull out one of her favs from the pile, and play it loud and proud:

My deepest condolences. I am so saddened to hear of Margaret's passing. She was a dear friend, even in our physical distance, and I will cherish her enthusiasm, chutzpah, generosity, inclusivity and her grace. I'll always explore the mountains with her In my thoughts. So much love to Carly and Margarets Brothers. She touched many and her loss is deeply felt.

Margaret was indeed a woman of many talents, and fluency in Italian (as mentioned recently in Lidia V's wonderful tribute) was yet another one. Growing up in Corso Italia (Toronto's other Italy), attending Oakwood Collegiate, serving on the student council, Margaret fell in love with all things Italian -- so much so, that she spent the better part of a university year studying and travelling in her adopted motherland. And of course, she delighted native speakers wherever she went: 'Hey, check this out ... La Piccola Japanese! ... brava!' Margaret even went so far as to name every car she owned after her Italian heroes: Ricasoli, Garibaldi, Vespucci, etc. So yes, long before 'La Piccola Alpinista', there was yet another Margaret, one of many; who will always be remembered as one of a kind.

Margaret and I shared many lunches, coffee and chats over the years. I always walked away from our visits with renewed energy and positivity. She embodied the idea of living life fully. I know she battled hard during those 7 years of living with Cancer. Any moment she had between treatments, were spent living life fully and travelling to higher summits. The other little part of Margaret many may not know is she spoke Italian like a real champ. It always amazed me how this cute Japanese lady could rock that Italian accent. I miss her and our lunches and our perky chats. She left behind a legacy and inspired many of us along the way. Rest in Peace Amica. xoxo Lidia

Over fifty years of friendship, so many amazing times together-from our high school days at Oakwood Collegiate to the present day when you shared your love of climbing with our grandson. In between, how many get togethers with our friends, sharing wonderful meals and lively conversation, watching our kids grow up...
Marg, your life always brimmed over with laughter and adventure-you will live in our memories and in our hearts.

Margaret was like a mentor to me - she had such a positive outlook on life. She was a very king, generous person, and a brilliant moderator. When I started my own company, she encouraged me and hired me for my first contract. She will be missed.

I had the unbelievable pleasure to be Margaret's personal trainer for the past 9 years. Her attitude, even through her chemo was the most inspiring thing I've ever experienced.
