Margaret RIGSBY Obituary

MARGARET RIGSBY Margaret Rigsby passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto on January 2, 2021. Margaret was 89 years old. Born in Chatham, Ontario, Margaret was the only daughter of the late Dorothy (Vary) and Andrew Rigsby. She will be missed by many cousins and long-time friends. Margaret was raised in Dresden, Ontario and continued her education at Bishop Strachan School and Trinity College in the University of Toronto where she formed many lasting friendships. She was a history teacher at Port Hope High School, and at William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute in North York, where she spent most of her teaching career. Margaret was keenly interested in world politics, education, music, and golf. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing stories of her travels and family history. Margaret's sharp wit was with her to her last day. Through teaching, she made a positive impact on her students and she followed the careers of former students with pride. Margaret was a member of Christ Church Deer Park. The family wishes to especially thank the excellent caregivers and staff of Integracare Inc. for their support and compassion over the past several years. Cremation has taken place. Due to current restrictions, there will be a private family gathering at a later date. Interment of ashes at Mountview Cemetery in Cambridge. If desired, donations to the SPCA or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted with Trull Funeral Home, 1111 Danforth Avenue, Toronto.

Maragaret was a childhood friend of my mother Catherine McVean growing up in Dresden, Ontario. She was very kind to share some of those memories with me after my mother passed away in 1985 and was a great source of history for me. I have many photos of their friendship together. Sending sincere condolences

I was also a student of Ms Rigsby at Mac. She somehow unlike other educators brought out the best in me. Through her I gained a love of history and world travel that has stayed with me to this day. May her memory be a blessing to those who knew her...

There are many students who will remember Marg with appreciation. It was quite a while ago but I was a colleague for twelve years and I'll remember her for her insights into local, national and international politics and for the humour and irreverence with which she shared them. I find myself smiling as I write. My condolences to her family and friends.
