MARGARET THOMAS Obituary
(née Mackenzie) (September 2, 1925 – Scarborough, Yorkshire, England) (November 10, 2025 – Calgary, Alberta) Margaret "Margo" Thomas of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the age of 100 years. Adored mother of Rod (Peggy) and Mark (Wendy); and sister to the late Douglas Mackenzie. Treasured grandmother of Aislinn, Zachary, Kaitlin, Heather, and Andrew (Thomas). Dear great-grandmother to Lily, Tova, and Hayes (Thomas). Born in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England, in the mid-1920s and later moving to Seven Kings, Essex, she served with the A.T.S. (Auxiliary Territorial Service) during World War II. Margo, or Grandma Margo, as she was affectionately known, subsequently immigrated to Canada in 1947 and lived in both eastern and western Canada, finally settling in Calgary in the 1980s. Margo was a devoted mother and grandmother. Selfless, unflappable, and unwavering under adversity, she was the epitome of keeping calm and carrying on. She will be sorely missed by her family. Margo's family would like to thank Dr. Sally Talbot-Jones, who cared for Margo in her later years, as well as the Brenda Stafford Foundation Ltd. and wonderful staff at Wentworth Manor, who provided a warm and caring environment for Margo during the last several years, as well as compassionate end-of-life care. In particular, the family is very appreciative of the excellent care provided by AHS Nurse Practitioner Hayley, LPN Michelle, and Palliative Care Physician Dr. Maria Celis. A private family remembrance and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
