Margaret WILSON Obituary

(nee Macnaughton) It is with great sadness to announce that Margaret "Meg" Wilson passed away peacefully at home, on September 9, 2024, supported by family. Born in Aberfeldy, Scotland, in 1930, Meg first came to Canada as a "War Guest" in 1940 with her mother, three siblings, aunt, and three cousins. In Toronto, she attended Hillcrest Junior Public School and Oakwood Collegiate before returning to Scotland in 1944 to complete highschool and her University of Edinburgh degree. Meg immigrated to Canada in 1954, where she met and married Roger Wilson in 1963. Together they raised three children, Martha (Jaime Sanchez Valdes), David (Sonia James-Wilson), and Duncan (Mary Elizabeth Murray-Wilson). A lifelong traveller and lover of the outdoors, Meg was a sailor, a fierce tennis player, and a founding member of the Alpine Ski Club in Collingwood, Ontario. She skied with family for close to 60 winters. She was also a proud member of the Toronto Island Community where she lived across seven decades. Meg enjoyed spending time on the Island with their six grandchildren, Lautaro, Symon, Matthew, Cian, Aidan, and Relmu. Meg spent her final years still walking daily with family in Nelson, BC. Meg supported many organizations, including Humewood House – in support of vulnerable women and children, the Waterfront Montessori School on Toronto Island, the Canadian Society for the Decorative Arts and the Canadian Red Cross in Nelson, BC. A donation, in lieu of flowers, to any of these organizations would be greatly appreciated. A memorial service is being planned for late Spring 2025, at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. Saddened to hear of Meg's passing. She was a remarkable woman and an inspiration to many people at Alpine Ski Club. Especially memorable to me was her continued active participation in social events at the club (Ladies Days particulary) into her late eighties. We will miss you Meg!

I am sitting with my elderly mother Patricia Higgins. I am Brigid Higgins her daughter. We are living in a house across the Street from where your family used to live on Cluny Drive.
We send you our heartfelt condolences. My parents were very fond of your family,
Margaret was a generous and vibrant woman. We remember often seeing her on her bicycle and she and her daughter popped in to say hello not too long ago. Our thoughts are with you all. Fondly,
Patricia Higgins and family

As a Fasken law-student in the 1960s and who worked with Meg's late husband, Roger, and later became a law-partner of him, I always thought of the Meg-and-Roger-duo as a model marital p'ship: they complemented each other so very, very well. Meg, I will miss you, and your warm friendship!!

I was so sorry and sad to hear today that Meg has left us. Both Meg and Roger had a special place in the hearts of all the Toohey family. Hugs to Martha and Duncan and their families.

I'm so sorry to learn of Meg's passing, and I send my sincere condolences to her family. I met Meg in 2002 at the Queen's Club. I became part of a foursome which met twice a week for a terrific game of doubles. Meg was always witty, erudite, kind and no-nonsense - qualities I greatly admired. I threw a Christmas lunch every year, and Meg always arrived right on time, resplendent in variations of lavender, and mixed like a pro. (Frequently people would ask me later who that "older lady" was as they loved chatting with her). One year Toronto had a big storm, and many invitees (who were many decades younger than Meg) couldn't manage the snow, so stayed home. Not Meg! She arrived covered in snow with a huge welcome smile on her face. That is when you get the measure of someone, and Meg was simply the best. I will miss her. Brooke Batchelor

Martha & Duncan and your families and David's family, Words cannot describe your loss. Meg was one-of-a-kind, always so full of energy, interested in everyone, loved all things on water, in the woods and on the ski hills. We will cherish pictures she sent to us last spring from Nelson. We have you all in our hearts and send our deepest condolences. Love Audrey and Jack Pady

So sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of Meg as we drove home from Alpine Ski Club. I also still remember her and Roger closing out the dance one night at Alpine, boogying far into the wee hours. Meg was a delight and a class act. She will be missed!!
