MARIANNE SEGER Obituary

1930-2025 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marianne Seger on April 18, 2025. Dearly beloved mother of Monica (Bill), Elizabeth (Peter), Karl (Laurie). Loving Oma of Helena, Luke, Nicholas, Anna, Karen, Claire, Michael, Jessica and Emma. Great-grandmother of Emilia. Predeceased by her husband, Frank Seger; sister, Dorothea Dumoulin; and son-in-law, Hubert van Tol. Marianne was a neurologist and PhD (Freiberg University) who came to Canada in 1958 to marry and make a home in Toronto. She worked at the University of Toronto doing research in the field of Alzheimer's and taught at the department of physiology. Marianne and Frank had a wide circle of friends, in addition to their large family, and they enjoyed hosting delicious dinner parties. She was a very active person, playing tennis, skiing and gardening. An avid traveller, she and Frank were always finding new places to explore. She worked for many years as a docent at the Art Gallery of Ontario, giving talks on Old Master Drawings and expressionist art, two of her areas of interest. When she moved to Hazelton Place, she was well taken care of by her entourage, including Francilia, Carol, Fre, Joy, Inez and Meseret. Thank you also to Dr. Leslie Beyers who provided support and care for over 25 years. A celebration of her life will take place on April 29, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto, at the Funeral Centre. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Eva's Initiatives for Homeless Youth, Diabetes Canada or the TSO.

Oma will be remembered fondly by our family. Our Em loved joining Anna and the Rhamey siblings for Oma lunches. She was always made to feel part of the family. This is just one of the things that made Oma so special. Our condolences go out to the whole family. Love and hugs.

Marianne was a dear friend to Klaus and me. Klaus had met Frank at business meeting, and then we saw each other once or twice a year. Her interest in the world, support to her children and grand-children, and her extensive knowledge made every meeting an inspiration and encouragement. There are too many moments to mention, but they live in our hearts.
Due to Covid we saw her less in the last few years, but she always spoke with gratitude of her family and the care she had.
Marianne will live in the hearts of many people and her wisdom will continue to guide us.
With best wishes, Flora and Klaus Jacklein
