Marie CRON Obituary

MARIE CRON (nee Galley) It is with great sadness, mother and wife passed away in the early morning on April 26, 2018. Born June 16, 1947 in Moncton, NB, she was the eldest daughter of the late Rita (Gallant) and William Galley (Saint John, NB). Given the names Rita Marie she was known as Marie. She was educated in Saint John and Moncton, NB. A graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, class of '68. She also held a BA from Saint Mary's University, Halifax, NS. She had been an active volunteer, holding various positions with the Jollimore PTA, John W. MacLeod School safe arrival program, Canadian Cancer Society residential campaign, Land Resources coordinating Committee anti-Liter Campaign and the IWK Auxiliary, being a past Kermesse Director. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Parish. She has been a choir member for fifteen years. She's helped out with different functions over the years and taught religious education to the young faith members of the parish. During her professional career she worked at the Saint John General Hospital in Saint John, NB, the Victoria General Hospital, the Halifax Infirmary, the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Armview Estates (Arborstone Enhanced Care) in Halifax, Dykeland Lodge in Windsor, NS and the Nova Scotia Community College. As a registered nurse she was active with her professional Association serving a 3-year term as President of the Atlantic Region with the Registered Nurses Association of Nova Scotia. She also served a 2-year term on the Resolution Committee of the Canadian Nurses Association. She was active with the Girl Guides of Canada in Nova Scotia holding positions in Harbourside Area. She had been active at the provincial level as the first aid coordinator of the Red Cross program. She was a certified Trainer and a First Aid/CPR instructor. She was a safe guide trainer. She was greatly involved with the camping committee. Other than her volunteer roles, she has served as a board member on the Photographic Guild of Nova Scotia for several years in Halifax. Also, she was a needle worker. She was part of the Alderney Needlearts Guild who meet in Dartmouth, NS on a weekly basis. She was also a member of the Virtual Threads Guild. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Charles Cron (Charlie) of Halifax; a son, Charles (Jennifer); and 2 granddaughters, (Olivia and Juliette) of Saint Jean sur Richelieu, QC; and a daughter, Sarah of Halifax. Sisters, Hylda Galley (Frank Parsons) Windsor Junction, NS and Pauline (Neil) MacDonald, (Bronwyn) Moncton, NB another niece, 2 grandnieces and several nephews, a few aunts, numerous cousins as well as members of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing class of '68, who were a close group, maintaining contact and providing the group who gathered each fall. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters, Marilyn in childhood and Monica (1998). In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marie may be made to the Girl Guides of Canada Nova Scotia Council, Breast Cancer Foundation or the IWK Children's Hospital in Halifax, NS. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. A funeral will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Parish, 26 Purcells Cove Road, Halifax, NS.
