MARIE HARDY Obituary

(March 22, 1934 - December 8, 2025) Throughout her life, Marie met every challenge with a remarkable combination of strength and kindness. Born and raised as a Catholic in the Roncesvalles neighbourhood of Toronto, from an early age, Marie assumed many household responsibilities in support of her mother who needed employment after her separation from Marie's father. After obtaining a bookkeeping certificate at Shaw Business College, Marie advanced through a series of office roles and returned to the workforce in the 1960's when her three sons were in school. For the next three decades, she was an office manager for several small businesses, where she was respected for her integrity and attention to detail. Though she worked full-time, Marie always made time for family and friends. Her sons knew that at any stage of their lives, they could turn to her for encouragement and wise counsel. To her friends, Marie was excellent company, whether it be bowling, playing bridge and euchre, taking in a show at one of the Mirvish theatres, or on annual cross-country skiing trips and cottage weekends. Marie was the aunt who always remembered your birthday and the grandmother who was always there to cheer you on whether it be playing hockey or attending a school play. The core of Marie's life was her loving marriage to Jack. Together, they were an aspirational team who worked hard to secure a better life for their family. Marie's devotion to Jack was especially evident throughout his lengthy struggle with dementia. Amidst this hardship, Marie endured a progressive respiratory condition, which in recent years restricted many aspects of her life. Despite this, Marie remained upbeat, and was bolstered by the relationships she formed during her three years at Belmont Retirement Residence. In later life, she became a passionate Blue Jays fan, and was delighted to see them advance to the World Series. Marie was predeceased by her mother, Stella McMahon; husband, Jack Hardy; and brother Gord McMahon (Bev). She is survived by her sister, Helen Neal; brother, Paul McMahon; sister-in-law Rena Martin (Mike); her sons Ken (Tina), Allan (Joan), and Randy (Joanne); as well as her grandchildren, Ryan, Cam (Ashley), Daryl, Brendan, Amanda, and Jake; and her great-granddaughters, Fiona and Maeve. A funeral service will be held at Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) on Monday, December 15 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The service will be followed by a light lunch at the funeral home. Marie will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Thornhill, where she will be reunited with Jack. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
