Marilyn BALAN Obituary

Marilyn Ellen Balan July 24, 1942 - November 7, 2023 We are heartbroken to share the sudden passing of Marilyn, in her home on November 7th. Loving wife of Peter for 57 years. Cherished mom of Bill (Nancy) and Stephanie (Dennis). Doting grandmother to Nick, Mackenzie and Sara. Loving sister of Judy (Charles), Doug and Janice (Lee); sister in-law to Mary (deceased) (Bill, deceased), Susan, Norm (Donna). Loving aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Ken and Helen Ebert. Marilyn was born in Tillsonburg and raised in New Liskeard, and studied nursing at Plummer Memorial Hospital, Class of 1964. She moved to Toronto to marry Peter, the love of her life, who she met in the tenth grade. Toronto became home, where she raised her children and supported Peter in his long business career. Marilyn's greatest joy was her family. She was very active in the lives of all of her grandchildren. She was often seen at a ski race, dance recital, school performances, and of course, the annual performance of The National Ballet Nutcracker, which she was so proud to brag that her granddaughters performed in for many years. Marilyn, an avid Maple Leafs Hockey fan, attended her last game on October 31st with her grandson, Nick. Marilyn had many hobbies and interests which included theatre, bridge, skiing, travelling and reading. Marilyn was a 'professional' shopper; no one could keep up with her. A food critic before there was such a thing; she always knew the new and hot restaurant to dine. Everyone loved Marilyn! Full of life and always cheerful, she loved a party or a chance to meet people and socialize. Marilyn will be dearly missed by countless friends, lifelong and new alike; and extended family that she always enjoyed talking to and keeping in touch with as much as possible. And, her "grand dogs," Coco and Dior. Marilyn was a supporter of the Hospital for Sick Children. Donations in her memory would be greatly appreciated. Friends and family may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. A Chapel Service will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences may be made through: www.turnerporter.ca

To Peter and the family of Marilyn,
I am deeply sorry to read of Marilyn's passing. I always enjoyed our chats and times in Muskoka during she and Peter's many summers on Little Lake Joe. She always had a warm and engaging spirt. My sincerest sympathies to all her family. Sincerely Sandy Waldie
