BEARDSWORTH, Marion M. 1917 - 2005
Marion Meredith Beardsworth, 87, of Royal Court in Riverview passed away at her residence Tuesday, March 29, 2005 with her family by her side. Born in Toronto, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Janet (Patterson) Scarlett. A retired teacher, she was a member of the University Women's Club, the Retired Teachers Association and the Literacy Council. A graduate of the University of Moncton, she received her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees. She also graduated from the Normal School Teachers College in Toronto. Being an advocate of women's rights, literacy and early childhood education, she founded the first kindergarten in Pine Glen and was honoured to have the library at the Frank L. Bowser School named after her. She is survived by daughters, Scarlett Orr (Douglas) and Barbara Beardsworth; sons, Peter Beardsworth (Donna), Paul Beardsworth (Cathy) and Allan Beardsworth (Bonnie); daughter-in-law, Karolyn Kelly; son-in-law, George MacDonald; grandchildren, Chris, Allison, Adam, Ian, Derrick, Rebecca, Emily, Martha, Katherine, Olivia and Nicholas; great grandson, Daelin. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Beardsworth in 1976; sister, Betty Corbett and a brother James Scarlett. Resting at Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd., Riverview, on Thursday, March 31, 2005 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Riverview Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, April 1, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Shawn Redden officiating. Interment will be in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Marion to the University Women's Scholarship Fund or to the memorial of donor's choice would be appreciated by her family. The family sincerely wish to thank the staff of Royal Court for the tremendous love, care and attention bestowed upon their mother over the last three years.
