(née Leach) Passed peacefully on October 13, 2025, at her home in Ottawa at the age of 94 years. Predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Hass; her parents, Lorrena and Walter Leach, of Perth; her brothers, Alvin, Arthur, George, Wilfred, and Ken Leach; and her sisters, Edna Soucie, Joyce Lang, and Lorrena Griffith. Left to mourn this loss are her children, David (Mary Federau), Mary Jo, Janis (Ron Smith), John (Amy Sanderson), and Jill Lauren Hass (Ian McKay); her siblings, Eldon (Jane) and Keith (Marie) Leach; her cousin, Doug (Lynda) Leach; her beloved grandchildren, Elisabeth (Luke Kowalewski) and Peter (Lindsay) Hass, Claire and Miles Smith, and Jessica Hass; as well as her great-grandchildren, Hudson and Gavin Kowalewski. She will be fondly remembered and missed by her many extended family members and friends. Marion grew up on the family farm in Perth as one of 11 siblings. After finishing high school at 17, she then worked locally for Jergens Soap. In 1950, she moved to Toronto and worked for Ontario Hydro for many years, where she gained the nickname - Mary Anne. Lorne and Mary Anne were married in Combermere, Ontario, on June 21, 1958. Through marriage, she joined the equally large Hass family, of Renfrew, Ontario. Their own family began while they were living in a 4th storey walk-up on College St. in Toronto. David was the firstborn and Mary Jo arrived one year later. In 1962, the family moved to Don Mills and grew with the addition of Janis, John, and Jill. Mary Anne enjoyed spending time with family, playing bridge, doing crosswords, and the simple joy of weeding. She spent her summers at the cottage in Combermere, where the extended family frequently gathered for meals and fun (shuffleboard and card games were played late into the evening). Mary Anne was always active; she water-skied up until age 70 and was eager worker in various cottage projects, such as painting, roofing, and wielding a sledgehammer. More recently, she refined her game skills and competitive spirit playing noisy games of Aggravation and Mexican Train, and keeping up with the younger generations by regularly beating them in Wordle. In accordance with her wishes, no funeral will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held in 2026. In remembrance, contributions can be made to the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation in Barry's Bay, Ontario, or the
Charity of Your Choice.
