Marion ROGERS Obituary

1929 - 2024 We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved family matriarch, Marion Ethel Rogers (née Stevenson), who passed surrounded by loved ones on August 12, 2024, at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Gord, and other very important people in her full, long life – her parents, Steve and Ethel; her sister, May; and her brother-in-law, Dean. She was a proud and devoted mother of Steven (Lori), Vicky (John), and Wendy (Adam), who she poured her heart into loving and caring for. Her love for them later grew into love for her grandchildren, who were the joy of her life – Jennifer (Mike), Emma (Kevin), Gordie (Ali), Sarah (Josh), Derek, Marika, Lindsay, Laura, and Andrew. She was blessed to love her six great-grandchildren – Lauren, William, Matthew, Alice, Henry, and Elliot, and cherished her time with many other special family members, including Jacqui, Carrie, Diane (John), Susanne (John), David (Joan), and their families. Marion grew up in the St. Clair West neighbourhood of Toronto, down the street from her husband, Gord. They both attended Vaughan Road Collegiate, where their friendship grew into a lifelong partnership. Throughout her childhood, she spent the summers in Tillsonburg at her grandma's, where she was welcomed by her large extended family. Gord joined Marion on the trips to Tillsonburg, which became a special place for both of them. Eventually, the couple moved to Mississauga, where Marion made new friends in her neighbourhood, joined Applewood United Church, and taught at Neil C. Matheson Public School. Marion had great pride in her profession and developed meaningful, lasting friendships with staff who shared her passion for teaching and commitment to the school. Marion had a tender heart, filled with great compassion and care, which was strengthened by her strong will and bravery. Into her last years, she remained stoic, fierce, and dignified, and faced the challenges of her aging with grace and resilience. She will be remembered for her zest for life, charisma, quick wit, and honesty. Her legacy is one of gratitude, friendship, and relentless family love. We are so thankful for her full and beautiful life, and we will always miss her. A memorial service and reception will be held at Applewood United Church, 2067 Stanfield Road, Mississauga, on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. We are grateful for all the people who supported Marion into her last years, with special thanks to Inga and Naida, who cared for her like family. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Dorothy Ley Hospice would be much appreciated.

Marion was a nice lady who always spoke to anyone. She was the first of that family I met at the Church social I took Alison to just after Stu was born (who stayed home with Dad). She and Sarah were there and Marion came over to speak to me and introduce themselves. Seems so long ago but that brief encounter sparked a neighbourhood connection and family friendship...

Your mom´s impact on Frank and I will never be forgotten. Your mom and your dad were always so kind to both of us.
I always enjoyed sharing a beer with your mom when I saw her! Marion's, grace and strength were evident, and she will be remembered with deep, affection and admiration.

I have not been able to add my memory for Marion until today, because it has taken me this long to accept the fact that she is no longer with us. I miss her terribly, our conversations, trips here and there and oh.....the shopping. Nobody could shop like Marion. I'd be exhausted but she would still be going strong. I have learned so much from Marion and will always cherish her memory. Also, one of these days I'll make it to Tillsonburg!

What a great lady! Years ago I worked with Marion and Gord on the renovation of their condo. From the vision through each decision she loved the process, and was always enthusiastic She leaves a beautiful imprint in so many lives.
