MARION CAROL SOLOWAY

In Loving Memory of Marion Carol Soloway (March 6, 1940 – February 25, 2025) We are saddened to announce the passing of Marion Carol Soloway (née Grosman) on February 25, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Toronto on March 6, 1940, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, social worker and philanthropist. Marion graduated from the University of Toronto with both a BA and a Master's degree in Social Work. She had a robust clinical practice in individual and marital therapy, raising her family at the same time. She had a passion for learning and for giving back to her community. Her generosity touched many lives and her legacy in mental health, breast cancer diagnostics, and brain injury research continues to influence and inspire the Toronto community and beyond. Her philanthropic work notably included the establishment of the Marion C. Soloway Breast Rapid Diagnostic Unit at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre - a pioneering advancement in breast cancer care that has been emulated in hospitals throughout Canada. Marion also established a scholarship in Social Work Practice at the University of Toronto, and she co-founded the Marion and Gerald Soloway Chair in Brain Injury and Concussion Research at the Toronto Western Hospital, which stands as a testament to her and her husband's commitment to advancing medical research. Marion was so loved by her husband of almost 65 years, Gerald; her sister, Pam (Doug); her brothers, Norm (predeceased) and Brian; her children, Diana (Doug), Julie (Brian) and Jason (Lauren). Perhaps above all, she was crazy about her six wonderful grandchildren: Emma, Madeline, Lucy, Abigail, Eleanor and Gabriel, whom she nurtured and supported even just weeks before her passing. To her extended family and multitude of friends, Marion was the life of the party – a maven of style, full of wisdom and wit, possessing an endless sense of humour. She will be deeply and lovingly missed by everyone. For those lucky enough to cross her path, she gave wise counsel without judgment and was there for the people in her life in the fullest way possible. Her funeral will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road. Visitation will be held at 11.30 a.m., with a service to follow at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marion's memory to the Odette Cancer Program, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre or to the Krembil Brain Institute, Toronto Western Hospital, UHN.
