MARJORIE CLARKE Obituary

(née Taylor, 1932 - 2026) June passed away peacefully, at Sunrise of Vancouver on January 27, 2026, at the age of 93, with family by her side. She was predeceased by her parents, Winsome and Ted Taylor; husband, Jim (2005); son, Gregory (1968); and sister, Pat (2016). She is survived by her children, Sharon (Gary), Barbara, Douglas (Alice) and Graham (Brenda); grandchildren, Haley (Jamie), Britt (Perry), Todd, Taylor (Teagan), Sierra, James, and Peter; and great-grandchildren, William and Jax. Born in 1932 in Vancouver, BC, she attended Maple Grove Elementary School, Point Grey Middle School and graduated from Magee High School. She attended the University of British Columbia, majoring in Agriculture, but left before attaining her degree. During her time at UBC, she met James Clarke, and after dating for several years they were married in 1955. Directly after their wedding, June and Jim moved to Kelowna for Jim's work. They enjoyed several years in Kelowna before moving back to Vancouver. June loved living in Vancouver, the family cottage on Skaha Lake (where she spent every summer with the family) and their condo in Palm Springs. June was not a fan of flying, so family memories include innumerable long distance road trips in one of her many station wagons over the years. June's passions were her family, her garden, and looking at other houses. She spent many Saturdays walking the neighbourhood attending open houses. She had an almost photographic memory of houses and could remember what had stood on a given lot throughout Vancouver's west side long after they had been torn down and rebuilt. June was always ready for a game of cribbage and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was famous for her cheesecake made for family dinners and was actively involved at St. Mary's Church for many years as a volunteer. An avid Vancouver Canucks fan, she had seasons tickets for over 50 years but never got to see the team lift the Stanley Cup. Her second favourite sport, even though she never played, was golf. In her golden years, she enjoyed watching the Golf Channel and rooting for her favourite players. She spent her final days at Sunrise of Vancouver after a fall in late August 2025. Due to existing heath issues, she chose to meet her end with dignity and grace. Her children visited her daily during this time, but Barbara held a constant vigil until she passed and for that the rest of the family is eternally grateful. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers over the years, everyone from Classic Life Care, especially Natalie, Jumphy, Yemmi and Raman, and the whole staff at Sunrise of Vancouver. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Kerrisdale Anglican Church, 2490 W. 37th Ave., Vancouver. Reception to follow offsite immediately afterwards. In lieu of flowers, June asked that you donate to a favourite charity of your choice. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift – that's why it is called the present.
