(January 1, 1963 - July 8, 2025) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mark Bates on July 8, 2025, at the age of 63, due to pneumonia. Mark died peacefully in his sleep at his beloved condo in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. Mark's love for people and animals, his vibrant sense of humor, and his unwavering zest for life left a lasting mark on everyone he met. He had a heart as vast as the ocean he adored, and he shared it generously with old friends and new. His warmth, laughter, and memorable conversations will be cherished forever. Throughout his life, Mark threw himself into a variety of business ventures with his signature enthusiasm, including helping many find homes in the community he loved so dearly. He welcomed everyone with open arms and was a compassionate caregiver to many animals in need. Mark was a devoted son, a loyal friend, and a treasured family member. His bond with his mother, Joan, was especially profound – a deep friendship built on love, resilience, and laughter through all of life's highs and lows. He will be profoundly missed. Predeceased by his father, Brian Bates; Mark is survived by his mother, Joan Bates Appleyard; his brother, Todd Bates; and his stepbrother, Eric Appleyard. Condolences may be sent to Joan at
