Mark BISHOP Obituary

MARK WINSLOW BISHOP On Friday, April 16, 2021, Mark John Winslow Bishop, loving husband, father of three children and one dog, passed away too young at the age of 58 from Multiple Myeloma. Mark was born on December 22,1962 in Vancouver, BC to John and Sharon (Engelbeen) Bishop. He received a Forestry degree from UBC and an MBA, with distinction, from Ivey School of Business in London, Ontario in 1990. He had a distinguished career at MacMillian Bloedel, RBC, and Brookfield. He respected and was grateful for his co-workers at Brookfield and his team in Brazil. On September 22, 1990, he married Patti Cross. They raised one daughter and two sons, Ellie, Matthew and Connor, as well as two dogs, one cat, one hedgehog, and the occasional fish. He was immensely proud to be their father. Mark loved time with family and friends, and especially time spent at his cabin on Gaviola Island. He loved adventure and travel and had a passion for skiing and bike riding. He rode to work year-round, sometimes dashing home only to switch bikes and gear, ready to hit the local trails with his buddies, the North Shore Mud Rats. He went on many incredible trips around Canada and the United States with the Mud Rats, fantastic road riding trips with his wife Patti in BC, France and Italy, epic back country ski trips both locally, and in Japan, Switzerland and Kyrgyzstan with close friends, and countless resort skiing trips around the continent with more friends and family. Some memorable family holidays were horseback riding in the Muskwa Kechika, Grizzly watching in Bella Coola Valley, camping in the Rockies, sailing trips with family friends to Madagascar, Desolation Sound and the Maldives. He looked forward to annual Harrison Resort family reunions, and the occasional fishing trip with his dad. Additionally, Mark was a generous patron of dance, music and theatre in Vancouver. Mark was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny. He is survived by his wife Patti, his three children, Ellie, Matt and Connor, his parents John and Sharon Bishop, his brother Mike, his sisters Kelly Bourne and Sue Gunning and many nieces and nephews. He is so loved and missed. At work and in his personal life Mark had the ability to overcome what others would consider unachievable. He was known for his intelligence, kindness, curiosity and abundant energy, and will be remembered for the same. Mark wished to acknowledge and give thanks to the incredible team of doctors and nurses at St. Paul's Providence Hospital. Due to COVID19 there will be no service. Please consider a donation to Myeloma Canada.

This is a tragic loss of a fine gentleman, far too young. I had the pleasure of meeting Mark through business when he worked with RBC, and kept in touch with him as he continued his career with Brookfield. He was one of those rare people you meet through business that you really enjoy spending time with, and we shared many conversations about sailing, kids and the Flat Top Islands. My deepest sympathies go to his family, who have lost a great father, partner, and role model.

I had never personally met Mark nor Patti. Our mode of contact was mostly by phone as I had served as their personal insurance broker for many years. Used to having affluent clients with lots of scheduled jewellery and/or wine collection, Mark and Patti was a rarity among my clientele. Instead, they had scheduled bikes which only went to show what preferences they had in their lives. Every time I spoke with Mark, he was always happy.
I am pretty sure, his three children inherit all the wonderful traits of his and with the able guidance of Patti ( who strike me as always pretty perky) will carry on his love of nature and passion of adventure.
To Patti, I say your are one lucky lady to have had the chance to make wonderful memories for thirty-one years with your loving husband. A rarity nowadays, I'd say.

We have lost a good friend and fellow outdoors enthusiast. Francine and I offer our deepest sympathy to Patty and the family. Mark's approach to life was remarkable. He lived every day to the fullest and he was a beacon for all of us to follow. I feel really blessed to have had him as a friend. Mark will be sorely missed but he will Iive on in our memories.
