MARK WESELUCK Obituary

It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Mark Stephen Weseluck, on June 30, 2025, after a short but virulent illness. Mark died peacefully, with his wife and daughter by his side. Mark was an exceptional human being. He was a man of great intellect, with a kind, loving heart, a great sense of humour, a lover of art, music, comedy and literature, and a passionate environmentalist. But what brought Mark the most joy in life was being surrounded by his loving family. His daughter, Lauren, was his greatest pride and joy, and she has thankfully inherited so many of Mark's wonderful qualities. He adored his wife, Nada, as much in his final days as he did when they were married 32 years ago. As a family who loved culture and travel, they explored the world together and Mark often said he was blessed to have lived such a rich and meaningful life filled with so many great experiences. Although Mark died far too soon, he lived his life with no regrets. Mark was a loving son and brother, who adored his mother, Nina, and sister, Cathy, and was delighted to share time with them and be supportive and helpful whenever needed. He always carried with him heartfelt memories of his father, Conn, who the family lost far too soon in 1981. He was also blessed with many cousins both on the Soknacki and Jones side of the family, with whom he held deep and treasured relationships. Mark had a hugely successful career in the financial sector, but remained modest and reticent to speak of his many achievements. It speaks strongly to his his character that he forged many deep friendships with his work colleagues at the Canadian Bankers Association, the Canadian Depository for Securities, and at RBC. He also had close bonds with his childhood friends from school and continued to nurture those relationships through the decades. Likewise, the friendships he made in university have endured and grown into familial ties. Mark was greatly loved and respected by so many. Mark received exceptional care at Credit Valley Hospital and wished to acknowledge his great team of doctors, including Dr. Strevel, Dr. Daniel, Dr. Lopiccolo, and Dr. Salvo. Special thanks also to nurses Sam, Lexi, and Claire at CVH, and also nurse Amanpreet of the Integrated Palliative Care program who cared for Mark so wonderfully while he was at home. A Celebration of Life will be held for Mark on Friday, July 18th, at 2:00 p.m., at the Boulevard Club, 1491 Lake Shore Blvd. W. In lieu of flowers, Mark has asked that you make an effort to lighten your footprint on the environment. If you so wish, donations in Mark's memory may be directed to either Environmental Defence or to Credit Valley Hospital.

Shocked to hear this sad news. My deepest condolences to his family. Mark was on my team at RBC. Apart from his dedication and attention to detail, I remember him as a thoughtful and compassionate man with a wry sense of humour. Thinking of his laugh now just brought a smile to my face despite the circumstances. He made a difference during his time, and we are missing one quality man today.

We continue to be so saddened about Mark´s passing and we send our heartfelt condolences to Nada, Lauren, his sister and his mom.
Though we knew Mark socially, it was clear what a kind and gentle soul he was - a man of quiet strength and many talents. He absolutely adored Nada and Lauren, and the love he had for them shone through in everything he did.
Over the years, we shared many wonderful times together including time at the cottage and many lovely dinners. One memory that truly stands out is the surprise birthday dinner he and Lauren planned for Nada at a Michelin-starred restaurant. His attention to detail, from the setting to the menu, showed not just impeccable taste, but the deep care and love he had for his wife. It was a perfect reflection of who he was: thoughtful, devoted, and full of heart.
Mark may have had a quiet demeanour, but he also had a warm and funny side that he shared with his family and friends. He will be remembered by many with affection and respect. RIP friend.
With deepest sympathy, Bob, Catherine, Brandon & Taylor

So sad to hear about the passing of my longtime friend Mark. We had many great memories throughout the years since 1972. A big part of my life is no longer but the memories will always be there. Rest in peace Mark for all eternity.

Mark was an unusual mix of the professional and the completely unexpected (his liking and dancing to the Pogues and Iggy Pop if I remember correctly; his lying on a sidewalk in imitation of a sign - yes, true). At work he was passionate about details and getting things right from his first days working together at the CBA, and again working at CDS at the same time. His volunteer work at the Furniture Bank and his support with Nada and Lauren for our newcomer friends showed how multi-dimensional he was (and he was fun to tease!). I am so sorry to Nada and Lauren, and to Mark's mum and Cathy.
