Marko PASHKOVSKY Obituary

MARKO OREST PASHKOVSKY Marko Orest Pashkovsky passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022 from injuries suffered after a tragic mountain bike accident in Toronto. Marko was born in New York City on August 2, 1959 to Neonila and Anatol Pashkovsky, both native of Western Ukraine. The youngest of three siblings, Marko and his family moved to Toronto in the mid-1960s where they resided in the west end. His formative childhood years were enriched and shaped by his extended Ukrainian family and many Ukrainian community groups. After graduating from the Ontario College of Art and Sheridan College of Furniture Design in the 1980s, Marko began employment as an Exhibit Fabricator in the woodshop at the Ontario Science Centre. During his 30 year career, his uplifting spirit and positive energy contributed greatly to a friendly, caring and productive working atmosphere. Marko's wide ranging passions included drawing and painting, creating traditional Ukrainian easter eggs (pysanka), singing in various rock bands including most recently, Euphoric Recall, comprised of co-workers from the OSC, downhill skiing at Blue Mountain and Mont-Sainte-Anne, and mountain biking in the many beautiful ravines of Toronto. Marko was an enthusiastic volunteer for numerous charities. His one hundredth blood donation was recently acknowledged by Canadian Blood Services with their gold award. He also frequently participated in music competitions to raise money for the United Way, including the OPSEU Govfest. Marko is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his children, Erik and Hannah; his beloved mother, Neonila; his brother, Julian (Terry), and his wife, Marlene; his sister, Roma, and her husband, Vladimir. He will also be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Stephen, Justin, Emily, Heather; and his parents-in-law, Nancy and Paul; and his brothers-in-law, Christopher and David. Marko will also be missed by his many cousins who would celebrate their shared family connections at the annual Lake Simcoe cousins party. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Blood Services at blood.ca

I always had such wonderful interactions with Marko. I would often ask for a backstage sneakpeak of what work he and his team where up to, and he was always more than happy to tell about his work.

His positivity will be missed.

My condolences to his family and friends.

To Elizabeth and family,
I was so privileged to know Marko from the Science Centre. Such an imaginative, talented, caring and perennially up-beat person who enriched so many lives of his colleagues and of visitors who interacted with his creations. I am so terribly sorry for your loss.

back in France, I am deeply saddened by this tragic news. I spent 6 months in the OSC in the woodshop dpt workshop where I had the chance to meet Marko. I had the chance to work in tandem with him, and it was always a great pleasure for me to know that I was going to be in tandem with Marko. We also shared a passion for mountain biking in the ravines and I also had the chance to race down his own track with him guiding me.
I can say with honesty that he was one of my closest friends while I was in canada.
I know he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. I miss a real canadian friend and colleague. Adrien Ancel
