Hi Anne, Sadly just learning about Martin's passing from the recent Trent newsletter. I knew Martin as the cool dude on our Trent tennis team. We trained and played against each other a good number of times and participated in several tournament's together. Given his tennis skills it was a little surprising that it appears here that he moved on to other pursuits other than tennis. God bless him and your family///Gord

Martin was one of my closest friends at Trent--with Anne they were a home base for me--and our lives intersected over many years--one of the smartest, funniest people I have ever known, his death diminishes the world--with deepest condolences to Anne and his family.

Martin was a singularly gracious, sincere and erudite person. I first met him as a fellow student in an undergraduate music course in 1994, and in later years, while we both were studying at U of T, I had the boon of meeting him again from time to time. Always friendly and able to recall people by name, Martin was humble, a superb listener, and a role model for the developing intellects of so many students. He will be missed, but I know he will continue to bless others. My thoughts and prayers are with Martin and his family.

Deep condolences to Anne, and the rest of Martin“s family and friends. A razor-sharp wit always accompanied his compassionate, thoughtful friendship. If you sought irony in most interactions Martin was the person to approach. He will be deeply missed. Love, Linc, Paula, Emma and Marika

We knew Martin from the archaeology "Tea Party" at Ethel's on Friday afternoons when we were still living in Waterloo. His charm, insightful wit, dry humor, and tales of his exploits brought life and cheer to our concourse. Our deepest sympathies during your time of loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time. We shall cherish his memory, having known him was a pleasure and a privilege. Atque in perpetuum, frater, ave atque vale.

Martin was part of our Friday "Tea"crowd as my anthropology and archaeology colleagues would call our weekly faculty rendezvous at the local pub in Waterloo. Martin was great company and was good fun to be around. Although he taught in Communications studies, he shared an interest in archaeology. He shared many anecdotes from his travels to Cuba (which he loved very much) and Europe which was always interesting to hear. The last time we met, he was writing a detective novel which was his post-retirement project. We will miss you dearly, Martin. Rest in peace.
